(bottle from 2010) Pours out a nice hazy, dark amber color with a medium cream colored head that retains very well and leaves a large amount of lacing. Perfect 5. Aroma is very nice, with a bunch of vanilla, sugared dark fruits, like plum and raisin, with a substantial amount of caramel as well. Just a touch of oxidation showing up here, but it’s very welcome and meshes well with the other aromas. Booze certainly plays a factor in the aroma, but again it doesn’t detract, only enhances. This smells strikingly similar to Lake Superior’s Old Man Winter Warmer, which is probably why I find it so enjoyable. Little bit of a toasty peanut-brittle character that adds another layer of complexity. Dried strawberries. Flavor is not as well integrated as the aroma, but it’s still good, with a lot of dried strawberries, sugared raisins (more towards the finish), cherry hard candy, vanilla, faint wood (intensifies in the far finish), gentle Assam tea bitterness, and some toast. Booze does show up here, but it’s not out of control. Mouthfeel is medium, with low carbonation. I was completely surprised by this beer as I had relatively low expectations, but this beer is incredibly complex and delicious. Far and away the best Brau Brothers beer I’ve had, and I implore them to make this again as a seasonal but place it in a four pack instead of this bottle. Having said that, I’ll probably still buy another bottle of this. Well done, Brau Brothers. tennisjoel (1494) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - SEP 24, 2012
Sweet aromas of caramel, raisin, fig, dark fruits. Malt dominated brew, slight note of oak. I must admit, this is pretty tasty. Could use a little more carbonation. Best served at a warmer temperature. Might be my favorite from Brau thus far. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - DEC 12, 2010
big thanks to ty for this rarity! pours a deep, deep amber comolr, dark but crisp. minimal yellow head with nice spotting. the aroma is proper, starts with a cheese like pungency and mustiness, then fades to sweet malts. its nice, pretty funky, i like it. the flavor is much more of the malts, with only a touch of the ’dank’ stuff. the flavor is not really tart or sour at all, but still funky and complex. there is still some hop bitterness evident. the palate is nice, good carb, but not abrasive. thick and syrupy, lingers in the mouth. very hearty and rustic feel to it. i thought it tasted like a homebrew at first when it was cold, but this is good stuff. i really like funky old ales like this. crossovert (14006) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 16, 2011
750ml bottle. bhensonb (15841) - Woodland, California, USA - SEP 28, 2011
It pours a burgundy brown with a foamy off-white head that produces some nice lace.
The smell is rich and carmally with an alcoholic perfume.
The taste is very earthy and toffee-like. Very sweet. Interesting.
I am buzzin hard right now

750 c&c from Guerde. No doubt the 2010! Thanks a lot guy. Pours hazy dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aromas of treacle, raisin and arguably oak. Med+ body. Flavor is dark malt, big dose of treacle, and some minor dark fruity and woody astringency. Heat isn’t noticeable. It’s pretty smooth stuff, and tasty to boot. Is it to style? Sadly I just don’t get many old ales. So thanks again Guerde.

Pours a deep amber with nice off white head that has solid retention. Aroma of Bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and alcohol. Flavor is sweet and malty with an alcoholic finish. Nice! portableparty (2398) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - NOV 15, 2011
Bottle. Pours brown mahogony with a quick whispy head that fades to nothing. Aroma is a mix a chocolate and caramel prunes and grape skins. Taste has a nice dark fruit flavor with coco and caramel with candied sugar and a bitterness throughout. Palate is full slick and has a malted milkball feel. Pretty tasty stuff, would buy again! 750 ml bottle to snifter (thanks phaleslu). Looks good; a semi-opaque caramel with thin off-white lacing. Smells solid: pleasantly oxidized hops with a heavy caramel and toffee presence. Pleasant on the palate. Good beer.
