COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moo Joos combines the full body of a Milk Stout with the silky smoothness of an Oatmeal Stout. Lactose sugar in the boil contributes a full and creamy mouthfeel while toasted and flaked oats in the mash round out the beer with an oily texture. A deep malt bill builds layers of roasty notes with hints of chocolate, coffee and anise. A traditional British Cask Yeast is then pitched, which leaves us with a fruity, malty ale.

12 oz bottle, unbdated, poured into a SA lager glass. A: pour is clear and very dark brown but looks pitch black in the glass. A gentle pour is needed to keep the tall mocha head from going over the top. Glass is thoroughly coated upon tilting, with some lacing clinging the glass afterwards. Smell: Sweet and rich with a suggestion of cinnamon, a clear note of chocolate, oat bread, a touch of dark fruit, and a hint of granola. Very slighty, and pleasantly, boozy. Taste: not quite as good or complex as the aroma, but still quite good. Sweet up front but balanced by the finish. Hints of coffee, dark fruits and chocolate in the aftertaste. M - Full bodied; very smooth; ABV seems hight than 6%. O: very nice cross-over (milk + oatmeal) stout with a super aroma.

On tap at Beertopia. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a small tan head and good lacing. Chocolatey, roasty, light maple, earthy, dirty hoppy, and coffee aroma. Taste is sweet malty, cocoa, light vanilla, dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel, and grassy hops with a roasty bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Pretty decent stout .

Courtesy of TheHoff43: Baker’s chocolate and roasted barley malt aroma, mild. Mahogany, thin tan head. Astringent, but smooth medium body, alcohol well hidden. Dark chocolate with the impression of raisins in the finish. Reminiscent of the oatmeal, raisin, chocolate chip cookies that my dad sometimes bakes for Christmas, but less doughy or sweet. Pretty well conceived.

Bottle, pours dark with a tan head, taste starts sweet with chocolate and some milk and has a light bitter coffee finish, pretty good

Pours nearly black with a fine tan head that faded into a decent lacing. Aroma was of coffee, cocoa, malt. Taste was as follows: malt, coffee, toffee, chocolate hints and a smooth moderate hop finish with an afterglow of coffee and cocoa. Palate is good. This is a very smooth and taste oatmeal stout.

Rich black pour with two fingers of tan lacing head. Nose is very nice, lots of coffee and java-ish roast, burnt sugar, and dark fruit. Light acidity from the dark grain and some nice and clean roast. Flavor lacks some of the robust and nuanced character of the aroma. Medium full body.

Sample at Kurtkeller 015: Coffee-tastic 02 on 07/05/2014. Dark brown color with a medium tan head that dissipates gradually to a film. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, malt and chocolate. Light-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, black coffee and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a mocha aftertaste. Decent overall.

12 oz bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Black color. Light brown head, with a 1 bubble layer retention. Aroma’s: lactose sweetish, roasted malts, mocha, chocolate, nice! Retronasal more roast, a bit less sweet. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted, oat. A bit low carbonation, and a nice creamy mouthfeel. A bit thin bodied. Finish is hard roasted, ashy, somewhat dry and roasted bitter. Pretty nice!

Pours black. Aroma and taste are sweet chocolate, some roasted malts, and a smooth finish.

Had this one multiple times and noticed some changes over the years. This review is based on the 2016 version. Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with an average sized tan head that quickly dissipates and leave behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate and light Hawaiian BBQ sauce with some floral hops and a touch of cream. Taste is where the oatmeal and lactose is better detected with flavors of chocolate, lactose and floral hops. Finish is semi-sweet with a short chocolate and vanilla after taste.
