Pitch black with brown head. Chocolate malt aroma. Taste - Complex rich flavors of cocoa, roasted malts, cabernet, vanilla and dark fruit. Rich, malty, chocolatey, and some sour vinous notes. A real nice 2X stout.

Bottle: Fairly black, large frothy beige head, spotty lacing. Musty roasted malt nose, slight coffee, a bit of ash. Moderate roastiness on the tongue, soft coffee, minor woodiness, very minor. Not as heavy
as I would have liked, body and mouthfeel are moderate. Soft roastiness lingers, even softer wood aspect. Had it not incidated it was aged in Oak, I may have totally missed it. This is not your average Oak aged Imperial
Stout in that its very subtle. Its not over the top, and for what it is its rather pleasing. Decent offering, even tho its not as big and thick as other examples.   Clean and roasty, with minor woodiness that lingers. TheHOFF43 (2052) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - FEB 2, 2013
Bottle. Pours black stuff a 1/2 finger of tan, fluffy head. Aroma is boozy oak. Flavor is dry oak, booze, nice malts and finishes very clean. The abv is very well hidden, awesome beer.

Opaque black beer, small brown head. Light airy palate, semi dry. Dark malt, not bitter or roasty and in fact a little creamy. Tiny bit of dry oak. Coca cola sourness - well integrated. Not getting any Madeira. Semi dry finish. All right but was hoping for so much more from this beer.

Black color, with medium sized beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some yeast, spices, cardboard. Good caramel and chocolate flavor, moderate residual sweetness, lean body; not much Imperial, and not evident cask, but quite good.

Thanks to Bob for the 750mL bottle. Poured deep brown with a fine, tightly-bubbled tan head. The aroma opened a bit tart, with vinous notes, cherry skins, and oak leading (all makes sense considering the Madeira barrel).. some coffee and cocoa beneath, but the barrel worked a bit too hard.. still enjoyable, though. The flavor started started the same way, with sour vinous notes and barrel, but more of the base beer came through afterward.. cocoa, ashy black patent, and well-roasted coffee settled onto the core.. coffee-inspired bitterness and grainy oak on the edges.. finished with a big dose of dry roasted malt with vinous notes and barrel. Medium-bodied with a choppy flow through the palate.. lots of good components in there.. overall some tasty stuff, and I really enjoyed the Madeira barrel treatment.
