500ml bottle (HBF2016)
Nice rich malty aroma. Fullish body. Nice rich malty taste. Drinkability very decent. Does what it says on the label - this is "bier". Do like the maltiness, keeps a malt-queen like me happy.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the brewpub: Lightly hazed golden. Fragmented, but creamy, white head. Soft and youthful aroma reveals zesty yeast, flowers, lemon, baguette and a tinge of honey. Firm carbonation on a soft body. Peppy minerals contrast with rich baguette and springy hay flavors mixed with an appetizing floral softness. Juicy surge of hops dovetails nicely with supple, well-placed fruity esters. Malt starches augment the fullness with a succulent texture. Fermentation is very clean. A delicate touch of rustic sulfury yeast pervades, serving as reminder that this is farmhouse lager done properly. Oily Hallertau nectar harmonizes with a honeyed-lemon sweetness which infuses the body with a roundness which beckons more large gulps. Finishes with lush pils malt supported by vibrant lemon and flower nectar. While this doesn’t do anything particularly dynamic, it does everything correctly. Mostly straightforward lemon-flower-pils malt combo, but very nice balance and plenty of rustic character that you’ll only find in Franconia.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at the brewery. Cloudy pale gold with a fine, tall head. Grassy, herbal hop nose, bready malts, crackers and peaches. A bit of mineral in the flavor, peaches, grass, dough. Tingly, peppery hop finish, oranges. Full and oily with low carbonation. Complex fruit notes everywhere. Could be bitterer, but very sueffig and tasty. Their standout.

on tap at the brewery, ungespundetes lagerbier. lightly hazed golden with a steady head; aroma of honeycake dough and dewy grass; modest bitterness but still interesting, a touch of caramel in the malt and hints of stonefruit, a pretty good way to while away a saturday afternoon

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2015 November 2014: Draft at Brauerei Müller. Lightly hazed gold with a white foamy head. Quiet floral Hallertau hops showing herbs and citric apricot, combined with clean, savory Pilsner malt (honey and toasty baked baguette). Medium bodied, sticky, malty and rich in the mouth, sweetness balanced well by carbonation. Low hop rate relative to sugar puts it closer to unfiltered Helles than Pilsner / Kellerbier, but regardless of that, it’s delightfully clean and wonderfully aromatic, and it only gets better as it warms and opens. (4.0)
March 2015: Lightly hazed golden yellow with a fine and lasting white head. Quiet aroma is pleasant hoppy with notes of lemon and flowers, while malt is lightly toasty and cracker-y. There’s a quiet calcium and sulfur mineral quality and a bit of doughy yeast in the nose (that I didn’t get so much five months ago). Medium body with low carbonation in the Ungespundet way, and the malt is a little more syrupy than I prefer (also didn’t get that last time) but as a whole it still works. Perhaps a bit sour in the finish given the yeastiness but all around it’s still nicely oily and juicy in the mouth and pleasant to smell and drink, if a bit muddled / unclear this time. (3.5)
