500ml bottle (One Pint Pub, Helsinki)Cthulhu (1034) - MARSHALL ISLANDS - APR 4, 2016
Very sweet caramelly aroma, touch of dry metallic-hinting hops. Deep red, tight beige head. Less sweet in the taste, in fact it’s a fairly refreshing palate, nice carbonation too. Pleasant grains, quite barley sweetness. Hops are very noble, dry, herbal, and with a nice bitter tingle.Fairly simple, but very tasty dunkel. This is why I like dunkels.

Bottle, at the brewpub, October 2006. Deep copper bronze, good off white head and moderate condition. Gentle roast barley and caramel sweetness in the nose. Sweet and malty with hints of chocolate powder bitterness emerge in the mouth, low fruity sweet finish with a lingering chocolate note.

Bottled. Caramel malts aroma, German hops but not as veggie/skunky in most German beers. Brown color, beige head, fair lace. Starts easy, light sweet and caramel. But then it has a bite. Quite hoppy bitter and herbal. Long lasty finish. Biting in my tongue at the front and sticky in the back.

On draught at the brewpub.
Copper colour with creamy head. Bready, malty aroma with suggestions of toast malt. Solid malty with hints of toastiness, but more reminiscent of the märzen style maybe. jfb (6575) - GERMANY - APR 14, 2009

BeerViking (4998) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 18, 2013
UPDATED: JUL 29, 2013 Bottle bought in Bamberg. Pours a deep almost mahogany brown with a tight taupe foam and a nose of roast caramel with a faint hint of nuts and cocoa. Palate is roasty and burnt malty, a little very faintly tart wineyness, maybe a touch of liquorice in the bitter finish. Nice, but the burnt bitterness is a little overpowering. A second bottle was far better - still roasty and malty, but now with a touch of plumminess, smooth and hoppy, without the burnt bits.
