Poured into a perfect pint.
4.0 A: Faintly hazed wheat yellow color. Two and a half fingers of pillowy white head. Retention is pretty good and plentiful lacing is left.
4.5 S: Big nose on this. Tons of grassiness to the point that it comes off like a funk. Grainy maltiness with a moderate sweetness. Pithy lemony fruitiness. Hay and apple orchard.
4.5 T: Taste is equally impressive. Again grass and hay are the main attractions. Grainy malts with nice neutral sweetnss. Lemon rind. Really tasty.
4.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Very creamy and incredibly smooth.
4.5 D: So drinkable that I feel like an ass for only having this one bottle. Really high quality kolsch.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2013 200 ml draft @ Braustelle. It is hazy! & clearly unfiltered, looking absolutely nothing like the other Kölsch’s I tried in Cologne. It also sports a smaller creamy white head. Nose is full of hops, raw onion & barnyard hops, slightly zesty, lots of fresh hops, freshly made it seems, lovely. It is almost IPA-like. Taste is pretty hoppy (& extremely so compared with everything else I tried within the style), bitter grass, onion, barnyard, tad milky, raw herbs, lighter sweet malt underneath, fruity, it is not brutal or anything, very easy to drink. Distinctly nothing else like all the other Kölsch’s, a completely unique take & break from tradition just like everything else at Braustelle. Body is creamy & way fuller than other examples of the style. Great stuff, interesting take on style, seems like a mix of modern influences and what Kölsch probably was 100+ years ago before they started changing it to compete with pils / lager. crossovert (13421) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 24, 2012
Half liter returnable bomber. A very nice slightly bitter koelsch. Easy drinking slightly fruity. The head pours like whipped cream it is super thick. CanIHave4Beers (4194) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - FEB 15, 2013
500ml Frigeist Ottekolong bottling. First good reason I’ve had to use the crystal Kölsch glasses my Mom bought me for Christmas.... cheers!ceck82 (51) - SPAIN - FEB 27, 2013
Pours a very pretty cloudy blonde with a nice big fluffy white head and great lacing on the glass.
The aroma is very inviting, lemony, very bready, some mineral character, a good light dose of herbal hoppiness.... some hay.
The flavor is spot on for what I like in this style. Clean, but very crisp... not restrained on bitterness or herbal hop character... some light bready maltiness but by no means is there any abundance of sweetness here. Just a little bit of that "straw" character, but it’s not as central to this one as many interpretations of the style. Certainly not unlike a great German PIls... but fitting more towards the Kölsch style.
Wow this is right up my alley. I really didn’t expect it to be this good.
De tirador, de aspecto es muy clara y cristalina, la espuma densa y compacta, el aroma en nariz es de platano, parecen levadura de weiss, despues en boca ela entrada es fresca y el final amargo-agrio.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2014 Tap at Braustelle Köln, during Ehrenfelder FdBierkulturen 2013. - one of few, if not the only milk-cloudy Kölsch I have had so far. Unpasteurided pregnant. Nice and extra hop bitter. Lactic palate. Some white bread malt aromas, some citrus. Standout, (because) atypical Kölsch lacking the style-typical lemonade sugariness. // rerate Feb 2014: different visit, different Helios draught at Braustelle: cloudier (naturtrüb) with a less assertive bitterness, but a mellow, harmonic round taste and mercifully still no grain sweetness to be detected. This is the only Kölsch in town that aspires to some complexity, a natural hop kick and sessionability at the same time and succeeds. +0,2 impuritylaw (74) - Freibierg, GERMANY - NOV 30, 2015
Bottle bbe 31.12.15. Strawy golden colour (filtered? no particulate material at all) with a nice white head. Aroma of grass, light malts and some citrus. Taste is different to the other Kölsch beers you get in Cologne: citrus fruit and more than usual hoppy bitterness, well balanced with a nice light malt/caramelly body. Pretty good Kölsch, should have discovered it some years earlier. Grzesiek79 (4364) - Radom, POLAND - MAY 14, 2014
Dobry kolsch, z bojna piana i przyznam ze pierwszy raz niefiltrowanego kolscha pilem. Przyjemne tresciwe, a jednoczesnie orzezwiajace. Piana naprawde spora i trwala. Mglistosc i metnosc porzadna. Skromna buteleczka kapslowana z jedna tylko etykieta. notalush (5896) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - JUN 17, 2014
Hazy light orange - thick, frothy lace - very tasty and interesting take on the style - full, frothy texture in the mouth - dry, toasty maltiness (a mixture and bready and crackery character) - light tangy acidity through the middle is followed by a mild balancing sweetness - moderate earthiness and crusty bread is followed by a complex finish of hop character (peppery character, moderate bitterness, tropical fruit) - my words are not really doing this justice, but this is one tasty beer - I love Freigeist! Hazy yellow with medium white head. Aroma is peach citrus, wheat, flour. Taste is fruity sour and fruity sweet with some chocolate coming through. Finish is tart fruityness. Very nice small bubbled mouthfeel. Easy to drink while tickling a little. Full bodied. This one did everything right!
