COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brewers draw inspiration for beers from all corners of the world of food and drink, and this beer is a perfect example. Influenced by a dish at Johanna Ware’s restaurant Smallwares in Portland, OR, two of our brewers designed a beer using lychee and Peruvian Yellow Chilies. The playful intermingling of moderate spice and unctuous, tropical fruit keeps this beer in balance. Early aromas of pepper give way to a rich and fruity mid palate that is followed by a pleasant, lingering heat. The use of several "Hot" hops with distinctive tropical aromas add additional depth of flavor to this unique beer. This is the first release in our new Farmhouse, Fruit and Funk series. This set of six beers--each available for two months of the year--showcases the deft and playful ways in which our brewers use non-traditional ingredients to make complex, flavorful beers. From Lychees and Yellow Chilies to Oregon-grown Peaches and California Kumquats, this line of beers stakes a claim for the "culinary beer" as an emergent, delicious and elegant new beer style.

Note: 4/10

Bottle (22 oz) shared at tasting. Thanks to Lurkaholic for this one! Clear yellow golden with a small white head leaving little lacing. Flavors of tomatoes, chilies, litchi, black pepper, vegetal notes, perfume. Taste is hot and not because of the alcohol, it’s chilies action here. There’s salty notes and mild bitterness as well. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Hot lingering finish. Vegetal. This is a weird hot mess. Unbalanced of course. It’s almost fun to try... until the second or third sip. No drinkability.

Pours a cloudy golden with no head and no lacing. Nose is quite simply of hot peppers. Taste is more hot peppers and slight acid, ending up tasting like pickle/hot pepper juice more than beer. Average body and carbonation. Eh... fun but not especially good.

Bouteille 650ml, bottle share.

Bottle shared. Clear gold pour with super foamy white head. Aroma is spicy, fruity, dry hop, chilies, tomato. Taste is hot, spicy chili flavor, weird heat, fruity. Palate is light bodied, dry, light carbonation. Weird.

Bomber at Imazato. Huge chili nose with a bit of citrus. Flavor is like tum yang kun soup, chili fire, sour or at least very tart lime, don’t really get lychee but it is very fruity and has a distinct farmhouse character. Light, clean body. Very interesting. I hate chili beers, but did not hate this.

clear gold pour aroma honeydew, lychee, pepper, bread, saison yeast. Tastes big peppers, fast rising heat that evaporates. buttery saison yeast a bit too strong on finish, overpowers lychees execution of spice is excellent, saison base is muddled.
