Draft at brewery. Dark amber-brown hue, thin layer of head. Big sweet melanoidins in the nose with some dark fruit esters. Flavor is sweet rich malts, hints of caramel and melanoidins, some molasses and brown sugar, finishes sweet with a touch of heat. Full bodied, slick texture, moderate carbonation. On tap at the brewpub 2/21/10: Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a thin coating of off-white head. Has a sweet dark caramel nose with some light fruity esters and a touch of bready German yeast. Starts with good rich caramel malty fullness and some sweet fruity complexity and a touch of biscuity character and noble hoppy bitterness before a full, slightly warming sweet cookie dough finish. On tap. Dark amber pour, thin off-white head. Sweet dark malt, overripe fruit (purple grape), candy sugar, and molasses. Noticable alcohol. Quite sweet, but enjoyable in small quantity.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is dark roasted malt, light overripe fruity note. Sweet caramelish and mild fruity accent to a light bitterness breaking the sweet malt flavours. Lingering dark and roasted malt flavoured finish. 11% they say, well. Pours cloudy, dark amber with red highlights and a medium off white head with some lace. Smells sweet and sugary malty, some red fruit and a hint of hops. Tastes sweet and sugary malty with quite a bit of alcohol. Ripe, dark fruit as well. Full body, good carbonation. Almost kind of an imperial red or something.
