COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
471 IPA Barrel Series is a labor of love. We not only give our 471 Double IPA the luxury of time in whiskey barrels, we follow that stage with a dry hop treatment that features a new hop variety with each release. We’ve pampered it here, for you to enjoy.

With this edition, Simcoe is the star. From bittering to finishing and dry hopping, Simcoe shines. Pine and citrus enhance the aroma and come through in the fresh hop flavor. The abundance of hops are balanced by sweet fullness of malt, lending flavors reminiscent of caramel. These characteristics linger on the palate with flavor from the barrel, warming the tongue until the next sip.

Had from draft at Melt bar and grill. Light scent, medium golden color, light semi sweet taste without much aftertaste. Not a strong heavy IPA but had a high alcohol content (9-10%). Pretty good summer IPA ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle. Poured a hazy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Wood, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, citrus and pine. Alcohol well hidden. This one grew on me more as it opened up.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 5/17/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, bread, floral, grass, light coconut, and oak/toasted earthiness. A touch of barrel booze appears as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, bread, floral, grass, light coconut, and oak/toasted earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon/orange rind, pine, honey, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, coconut, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness or astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness/oak spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/sticky, fairly resinous, and slightly silky/slick/syrupy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with light warmth lingering after the finish; with slight barrel booziness. Overall this is an outstanding barrel aged DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Hazy deep gold beer, good cream colour head. Bourbon and vanilla on the nose. Palate is smooth, mildly dry and has decent fine carbonation. Sweetish malts into sweetish fruity bourbon. Mild vanilla. Mellow marmalade hops, a little pine. Smooth bourbon finish. Nice beer but like the Eureka version, the base beer is getting a little swamped with the barrel aging.

Orange pour from 22oz bottle at home. Barrel aged IPA is odd. Vanilla and oaky flavor, good pine and citrus notes. Good but takes ya by surprise

Sweet aroma of brown sugar and honey with vanilla, citrus and some bourbon barrel in the background. Slightly boozy, I don’t give a lot of 10’s on aroma, but this really earns it. Nice see through crimson color with an off white head. Taste is also caramel/butterscotch sweet with a hint of hops that do not amount to much or last long. Barrel aging is present in the taste with an oak and vanilla finish. I could have used more hops, but this is drinkable as hell for 10.5%. Tastes more like a barleywine than a DIPA. Good smooth palate. I really liked this one, but I must warn all hop heads that it is different. If you hate sweet, you will hate this. I hope it’s not a headache in a bottle; I don’t want to re-rate this one.

Bomber poured a clear orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, bread, pine, orange zest and light pink grapefruit. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bourbon, oak, caramel, citrus and light pine with a smooth dry lightly bitter lingering bourbon finish.

Bomber. Whiskey and oak aroma with notes of pine and citrus hops as well as some caramel and vanilla. Pours cloudy caramel colored with a thin off white head that has poor retention and some lacing. Starts with sweet caramel malt flavor with good notes of whiskey and vanilla. Finishes smooth with some pine and citrus hop bitterness and a bit oak as well. Wonder barrel aged IPA!

3/16/16. Thanks, Justin! Amber pour with a small khaki head. Loads of barrel in the aroma, whiskey dominates, some caramel, vanilla, mild hoppiness. Whiskey dominates the flavor as well, loads of it, mild hoppiness, caramel. Eh.

DocLock (11236) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 3, 2016
Bomber from Capones. Pours hazy, deep copper with minimal head. Nose is big hops, oak, whiskey, pine. Tastes hoppy, with huge oak and bourbon flavor, citrus, and tannins and caramel.
