Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewerys Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

I dont really have any problems with this beer; it isnt offensive to any of my senses, but it doesnt stand out as anything spectacular, and given its niche style, it should be able to do that to be memorable. It pours with almost no head and doesnt sit smoothly before swallowing, but it smells great, otherwise looks good, and tastes solid enough to want to keep drinking it.

Im getting some vanilla in the aroma and some roasty/sweet porter characteristics, but everything in the scent is muted and weak. I wanted more here. Pours a flat black color with a tiny off white head. Flavor contains some dark chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla with a slight amount of bitterness at the very end to balance things out. The palate is not good at all. Watery, overly carbonated and weak. No thanks, I will not be trying this one again.

Tasted this in the Three Monkeys, 264 West 54th Street, Manhattan on the 20th September 2015. 16oz draft, keg dispense. Clear dark garnet in colour with a creamy buff head. Malty aroma with notes of creamy vanilla present. Creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malt complex gives maltloaf base with strong dark chocolate, vanilla pod, black cherry notes all in the mouth. There is a hint of dry hop flowers in this, but this fades away rather fast in the brief aftertaste. Finish is smooth and malty with sweet notes of American cream soda and black cherry fruit.. A lovely session porter.

DATE TASTED: October 18, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: soaking up the tears of a Browns wasted opportunity... APPEARANCE: coal-black body, to be expected of porter; reasonably thick, slush-brown two-finger head that becomes a screen shade on the glass while keeping a quarter-inch ring--suitable... AROMA: vanilla bean, smoky, toasted dark malts and a milky lactic allure; little in the profile otherwise... PALATE: rather light-bodied for a porter; swift and dissipating aftertaste... TASTE: soft vanilla is present but almost an additive, like in a soda; speaking of which, this exhibits the cola qualities one expects from a porter, with some ginger and hops at the finish... OVERALL: a reasonable, dutiful porter that has some nuance but doesnt stand out as one to reach back for ...

Bottle at America on Tap. Deep brown with a small off white head. Lots of vanilla flavor with some light caramel and chocolate maltiness behind it. I would have preferred a richer sweeter malt base to counter the vanilla.

Bottle. Roasted malt aroma with chocolate and vanilla notes. Pours very dark brown with a thin light brown head with good retention and some lacing. Starts with roasted malt flavors with chocolate and a hint of vanilla as well as a medium body. Finishes quite smooth with the roasted and chocolate malt fading to the background and the vanilla coming to front assertively to coat the palate with a lovely vanilla flavor. Excellent vanilla porter!
