Moutsoorten pilsener, Münchener. tarwe en havervlokken. Hopsoorten Perle en Hallertauer Mïttelfrüh After the bankruptcy of the Zaandam brewery in early 2013, brewed initially at Anders in Halen, later at 7 Deugden in Amsterdam. Now at Hoop. Zit vol met aroma’s van kruiden uit de gist en heeft een fris citrusachtig karakter uit een mengsel van Amerikaanse en Duitse hopsoorten. Een intense en complexe Nederlandse tripel die toch makkelijk drinkt. Mout: Pils en CaraPils Hop: Hallertau Tradition, Lublin, Centennial en Citra. Divers: Gerstevlokken en kandijsuiker Bitterheid: 29 EBU Alcoholpercentage: 8,4%

Bottle 33cl. Hazy to cloudy straw color, a lot of bubbles, small frothy white head, good retention and lacing; fruity nose, rich aroma of apricot, tropical fruits, orange peel, wheat, yeasty, coriander, lemon grass, taste is light sweet, medium bitter, wheaty, fruity; medium to full body, oily texture, lively carbonation; mild bittersweet finish, fruity notes, alcohol well-hidden. Nice and tasty, not a middle of the road tripel.

18-07-2017; bottle; at home (bought somewhere in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands). The looks of the beer are quite average. It looks like any other tripel. The beer has a rather dark golden yellow colour. The beer has a nice medium amount of cloudiness. It is not completely blurry though. On top of the beer a nice layer of white foam is formed. The foam collapses rather quickly. Not bad, but not very special. The smell of the beer is nice. It is not bad, there are some nice aromas of malts, giving some sweetness and also a touch of honey. I rather like this. There are some strong hop aroma’s, giving nice bitter aromas, together with a rather clear zesty hop aroma. This gives a nice slightly sour aroma, and also a bitterness. It is mainly lemon zest. There are nice touch of almond to. Not bad. The taste of the beer is pretty much the same. There are some nice malty sweets, with some almond flavours, some touches of alcohol and a nice plain bitter hop flavour. The strong citrus flavours are gone. I also taste some clear yeast flavours. The palate of the beer is fine. Medium body, smooth texture and a nice medium high carbonation. The finish is nice. It contains some sour yeast touches, some malts and a slight bitter hop flavour. I like it, but not worlds best beer.

Bottle from the Mitra shop in Lelystad. Apparently a beer company now brewing at 7 Deugden, but until four years ago a micro brewery in its own right; my second beer in this ’Saense’ series. Medium thick, egg-white head, quickly dissolving into thin islands of foam in the middle and a well-retaining, densely moussy edge; pure, ochre-hued ’old gold’ robe with a haze of yeast particles throughout. Aroma of cooked potato, banana and indeed bubblegum, wet hay, camomile, old cheese, ’jenever’, unripe pear, sweetbread, green apple peel, coriander seed, rhubarb, powder sugar, minerals, old cake, sourish peach, and a vague, but unmistakably clear, sulphuric presence of DMS (cooked white cabbage). Fruity onset, some sweet banana isoamylacetate but not exagerrated, hints of green pear, stewed rhubarb and raw pineapple, sweetishness mixed with some gooseberry-like sourishness, minerally carbo but fit for the style, smooth and full, lean, somewhat soapy mouthfeel, made softer by the oats and slicker by the wheats. Cereally and very lightly caramelly malt base, a bit bready even especially after adding the sediment, but with a sharper, slightly wry grainy edge too which I assume represent both the wheat and the oats; in the finish, a glow of white rum-like alcohol manifests itself, lending it a warming, but also lightly astringent effect initially, though this seems to be mitigated by an earthy, very slightly starch-like, bready yeastiness, some soapy coriander (but fortunately kept relatively subtle), and leafy, floral, soft hop bitterishness after the sediment has been added. The malt sweetness and even the sweet banana ester keep dominating as the beer goes down the throat. A bit too alcoholic even for a tripel, with this somewhat annoying white candi sugar and banana ester sweetness lingering at times when they should have already disappeared: I truly believed 7 Deugden, which has produced more than one decent beer, could have been capable of delivering a tripel true to the ultimate Westmalle standard - because beers like this usually cling to that even if there are already too many tripels around in the Netherlands and a lot more so in Belgium - but this one disappoints a bit. I probably had too many tripels already in my ’beer rating time’ but this does not add anything to the style at all, it merely positions itself on the sweeter side of the range, with a very - overly - boozy aftertaste to it; making things worse, it suffers from DMS, which I am extremely sensitive to. Point off for both the DMS and the badly hidden alcohol, even though otherwise it is still fairly decent from a purely technical point of view and I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more without those two major flaws.

Renewed acqaintance with this tripel. Bottle at home pours hazy golden, with hardly any white head. Terrific fragrant aroma and full taste, both medium sweet and little bitterness, of ripe yellow fruit (peach, tropical fruits, little banana), honey & fudge. Low carbonation. Easy drinkable and accessible, but delicious tripel. (By the way: since 2016 brewed in De Hoop instead of Anders).

Not bad at all.i do not like the labels on the bottles. They all look the same, and the Beers alk look the same: hazy Amber, No Head. But this Tripel is quite good, esp. Since it is Dutch!

Barwa złota, piwo lekko mętne, piana skąpa, redukuje się do obrączki. Aromat intensywnie przyprawowy i owocowy: mirabelki, morele, jabłka, banany. W smaku zaskakująco gładkie i kremowe. Mieszanka owoców jak w aromacie, biszkopta i nut przyprawowych, korzennych. Goryczka niska, drożdżowa.

schenkt helder gouden met lichte kraag. aroma van caramel, mout, gist, iets floraal, citrus, tropisch fruit, smaken zijn koriander, perzik, mout, kruidig, matig hop bitter, medium body, zwak tot normale co2. ok-ish.

Bottle split at ChrisO tasting, London. It pours a clean golden color with medium white head. Aroma is doughy, sweet with caramel, starch, light veggies. Taste has more unfinished notes of starch, veggies, caramel and toffee. Medium bodied with ok carbonation. Yet another very bad tripel at this tasting, wow
