3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft sample at The Pint Room, 6/19/2013. Medium-density dark brown smaller off-white creamy head; medium lacing. Roast, toast, chocolate, sweet, nutty. Body is creamy yet on the thinner side. I couldn’t find any coconut in this.
Bottle. Pours a nice black beer with a small tanned head on top. Aroma has chocolate and vanilla, coconut and lactose in there, hint of roast and caramel in the back. Flavor is very full, lots of sweet milky chocolate and coconut in there, like drinking a carbonated Bounty, in a very good way. Soft and gentle carbonation, long sticky sweet aftertaste and all the ingredients stated on the label are noticeable without being overpowering. Nice one!! bytemesis (8423) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - MAR 30, 2017
Bottle. Pours clear reddish black, medium tan head, dissipates fairly quickly, decent lacing. Aroma is HUGE mounds bar and thats about it. Flavor is fully sweet, mounds bar in a glass. Medium body. Gimmicky as shit but its fun for a few ounces. Wallaby501 (72) - - DEC 21, 2016
Draft at taproom. Pretty good overall. Great aroma, solid coconut flavor that flowing into a nice malty finish. Would have again. PorterPounder (7970) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - OCT 26, 2016
Boardman, Oh - Vintage Estate Beer and Wine - 12 oz bottle. Sable black pour, thin, quickly dissipating mocha colored head. Aroma has some licorice accents, a touch of coconut. Flavor runs along the same lines, coconut is quite prominent but not obtrusive or overwhelming. Chocolate comes around in the back end and finishes it off nicely. Decently thick mouthfeel. Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate and coconut with coffee and roasted malts. Flavor it’s similar with the dominate flavors being coconut and chocolate. Finishes thick with the roasted malts. sturmthis (1149) - Bavaria, GERMANY - SEP 4, 2016
On tap. Cola color with one finger off white head. Aroma has chocolate, coconut, coffee bean. Taste is very similar, a little thin, but still very nice. ganache (5905) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 26, 2016
Bottle. Nose heavily coconut milk, essentially cloyingly so, with a little husk thrown in the deep bg. Pour a rich mahogany that is more black in the glass, a little ruby poking out of the bottom of the pint glass, a short and ephemeral light brown head, creamy but upset by the adjuncts, I think. Taste is very sweet and always threatens to cloy, but that rich natural coconut taste is just dynamite, supported but smooth medium chocolate. The velvety texture offsets a somewhat flat feel in the full body, though I’m not sure more aggressive carbonation would work. A touch of fruit and a touch of malt, if you can believe it, with additional waves of chocolate lapping the palate. I hesitate to celebrate this for lack of traditional "beeriness", but it’s a clean, solid, rare profile, and a successful one at that. Would absolutely have again; sweet teeth with rejoice.
