A fury of dots and dashes come trough the receiver. The translator turns in amazement. "A Zero IBU IPA by two breweries separated by sea?" His commanding officer lays a grizzled hand on his shoulder as his eyes narrow toward the horizon. "No bastard ever won a war by playing it safe, son."
The International Arms Race is a new type of battle collaboration between hardcore American craft brewery Flying Dog and BrewDog.
Zero IBU IPA is an ale brewed with berries and herbs.
2 IPAs that rock.
Hunt them both down and see which beer you think deserves to win the battle and the war.

Bottle from Csakajosor. Nothing head, copper-orange colour. Cola, ginger, and something undefined spice flavour. It tastes same: cola and ginger. The body is quiet watery. Man can very good taste the malt in the beer. It"s a very light and tigth beer. Intressting to taste but it doesnt remember to an IPA. Nothing in common.

Glowing slightly reddish, medium head. Light herbal and a bit of sweetness. Bay leaves and pepper. Ending is spicy but better balanced than the Flying Dog version.

Clear orange. Aroma of spices, anise, orange, slightly sharp but a bit more appealing than the other. Flavor is bittersweet, nice balance but a bit thin. Still, I think I need hops.

In ogni caso buona!

0.33l bottle. Pours light amber with a very thin white head. Aroma of ginger with some sweet bubble gum. A lot of ginger and bubble gum in the taste as well. The zero IBU IPA is an interesting idea, but this beer is not extraordinary.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale amber color with a white head. Has a fruity malty spicy herbal sage aroma. Fruity malty spicy sage flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy herbal finish.

Keg at Brewdog. Dark Amber with a very thin White head. Massive Sage nose. Flavour is Sage and some pine. Reminiscent of the Williams Pine beer but much worse. I really enjoy the taste of fresh Sage so this appealed to me to some extent. The bitterness is definitely conspicuous in its absence. The better of the two Arms Race beers. Both were fairly wack though.

Aroma: Herbal and slightly fruity.

Appearance: Deep amber body. Hold its head slightly better than the Flying Dog version, though it still disappears pretty quickly. Medium carbonation. No lacing.

Taste: The malty notes are more prevalent than in the Flying Dog version. Herbal and fruit flavours. Not particularly moreish.

Palate: Thin, watery body with a slightly oily texture. Lively carbonation.

Overall: Brilliant experiment to brew a beer without hops - definitely something different! This is better than the Flying Dog version, or rather, less horrible.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; interesting challenge a no hop IPA, pours amber with a slight red with a frothy head that disappears quickly. You can smell botanicals and spice almost like gin. They have achieved a bitter taste but it tastes a bit like juicy fruit bubblegum that is loosing its flavour. Glad Ive tried it!
