Bottle from Redmonds, Dublin. Slightly murky reddish brown pour with a small tan head. Dark fruit, sweet malts, booze and peaty, smoky notes aplenty in the nose. Similar traits evident in the flavour and the peatiness was just a little too overpowering. Er, great name, but somehow unbalanced and wasnt totally feeling this one.

Bottle; Pour is slightly murky, golden amber in this glass; average beige head is present, along with very light, spotty lacing. The interesting thing, to me, is that I find the nose of this brew to be quite spectacular ; All of the sweeter elements come through here; short breads, whisky, chocolate - the initial taste was a blast of ash, honestly. I thought it was infected. No, not infected. Smoky peat comes through pretty heavily though, once the palate adjusts to the ashy notes. The sweetness of the malt profiles follows you until the end, when youre left with a bit of bitter ash on the tongue. This brew feels messy, honestly, but a unique experience, for sure.

Overall, a decent beer. As a 12% barleywine this was too thin in body and appearance. The smoky peat expected from a scottish ale is there and well-balanced (for those that like this style). flavor was good and very drinkable. Some sweetness comes through in the nose and not so much in the taste.

Bottle from Utobeer Market Stall. Brown pour with a beige head. Oozes alcohol in the nose. Bitter lemon aromas join the obvious multiple whisky infusion. Intriguing smell. Dry, smoky flavours with a bit of coffee in there too. Dry, smoky finish.

gunnar (8849) - Sandnes, NORWAY - JUN 16, 2011
Sampled at Copenhagen Beerfestival 2011. Pours dark mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma of smoked malts, taste is weak sweet sugary, lots of sweet caramel and toffee, alcohol presence, liquorice and spice. Ends bitter, strange beer.

Palme (4631) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUN 15, 2011
Sampled @ Copenhagen Beer Festival 2011 from tap: Pours a light clear hazel brown body with a thin islandy off-white head. Aroma is malty, notes of smoky cardboard and roasted caramel. All in all not that good aroma. Softly carbonation, oily and sticky texture and medium to full-bodied. Some caramel flavors, but its dominated by smoke and malts. Ends with a peaty and warming whisky-like finish and little alcohol in the aftertaste. All in all I quite liked this except from the not so great aroma.
