COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
5am Saint is The Holy Grail of red ales. We live in a world of disposable deities. Someone, somehow has managed to press that big, flashing moronic override button and we’re hard wired straight into the pockets of false idols trying to make a quick buck. Sadly, for a lot of people the same mentality applies to beer. But who’s to know what’s worth worshiping when monolithic advertising budgets have you sucked down the rabbit hole in the blink of an eye? At BrewDog we are on a mission to open as many people’s eyes as possible. Cast away any aspersions and let the crook of BrewDog be your guide in a whirlwind of conformity and mediocrity. Once this ruby liquid forms a foamy halo around your glass, you’ll never want to look back.
Malts: Maris Otter, Caramalt, Munich Malt, Crystal and Dark Crystal Malts
Hops:Cascade, Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe, Ahtanum, Centennial
Twist: Loads of late hops and bucket-loads of dry hops

Pours dark amber, straw head. Fruity aroma, slight citrus. Fairly bitter, tastes quite malty too. Fairly dry palate. Would be a nice beer to drink a lot of, if it wasn’t for the price.

Nice malt notes followed by spicy hops. Suffers at the 5% strength making it a bit watery. Nice bit of pine and American hops the cascade and Simcoe particularly strong in the mix followed by a dryer bitterness with a complex twinge at the end. Very decent amber ale actually. Just missing that couple more degrees!

Tap. Pours dark amber with fine white lace top. Aroma is predominantly hoppy - citrus and pine. Taste has some malt. Taste is mixed. light sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, umami, but in a cluttered way for me. There's no defining quality to this. In passing I note that experienced reviewers tended to drink this in 2009/10, and those that return are less impressed.

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours a beautiful brilliant brown with limited whitish foam. Aroma is birth malty and resinous, and citrus. Body is relatively dense, with some stickiness and moderate carbonation. Taste is mostly sweet, but with a nice accompanying bitterness. Very well balanced. Finish is not long, but pleasant.

Bottle from Pezinská pivná pumpa. Coffee aroma and lovely reddish appearance. Taste of malt and caramel. Very good one.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2017 Birthday bottle at home. Pours a cloudy reddy-brown with a lovely little head that forms an everlasting beige layer on top. Smells like a well hopped beer should, without that odd sickly note that I sometimes get from heavily hopped beer. Smells very fruity! Taste zengy, fruity, herbaceous in a way. Aftertaste a bitter twang. Good lacing. For me, I don't get the 5 different types of malt that it contains, probably because the hopping overpowers it. Still a nice beer.

Aroma is very hoppy, zesty and fruity, Taste is simple bland short lasting stale malt and wet cardboard very disappointed.
