4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A lovely smooth black IPA. The first example I’ve tried in this style and it is very impressive. The aroma is of rich dark fruity notes, the taste is hop forward, caramel and again dark fruit. The mouth feel is velvety and medium to thick. It coats your mouth and the flavour lingers but suprisingly for a beer of this alcohol volume you get no burn at the back of your throat. A great beer to sip on.
Bottle @Craig’s (Abstrakt tasting). Pours vary dark brown, no head, no carb. Nose is purfume, cardboard, grass. Taste is slight raisins, cardboard, oxidisation and bland. GlasgowTAD (1873) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - JAN 24, 2017
Bottle at Craigs. Pours deep burgundy black with no head. Aroma is heavy caramel. Taste is heavy caramel, raisins, dried red fruit, cardboard. SvanteL (590) - SWEDEN - JAN 15, 2017
Mörkt rödbrun. Doft av tallbarr, kåda och mörka bär. Mycket fyllig och vinös (11,2%) smak med choklad, toffé, en liten syrlighet av bär, soja och en stor avslutande beska.
Ja, vad säger man? Så otroligt komplex och doft- och smakrik att det trotsar all beskrivning. Gurthnar (5971) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - JAN 8, 2017
Bottle at a tasting. Lots of coconut. Really seems like a coconut water. Dry, slightly roasty. Quite thin bodied, well attenuated. Easy drinking. The hops completely disappeared from here, but a tasty beer remained nonetheless. Great! brewtalita (342) - Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC - NOV 23, 2016
Dark brown, no head, almost no bubbles. Quite old bottle.
Aroma of licorice, cocoa powder and coffee.Palate heavy, almost no carbonation - I dont know if this has been bottled like this on purpose or is it a faulty cap? Taste extremely rich of cocoa powder, bitter tanins of barrel aged red wine and warming alcohol finish. Hop character diminished in this aged example.
All in all a very pleasant beer.

Some alcohol, yet well hidden due to 11,5% alcohol. No carbonation. Very Good. fiulijn (20938) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 1, 2016

Dark brown color, almost black, with creamy beige head. Chocolatey aroma, yeasty, cheesy, woody. Good chocolate flavor, with a touch of bitter herbs, moderate sweetness, woody, complex; bitter liquor impression too. Excellent.
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2015 In the final analysis, my favorite of the Abstrakt series (up to #17 anyway!). Back near its release date, this beer hit a blending of hops and dark heavier tastes that was hard to beat. Dark roasted malt, plums, leather and dates create an impressive backbone, but fruit-based hops fight their way though to bring out the Imperial IPA profile. Deep and complex. Just a warning - some recently opened bottles had lost the hop punch with a touch of sourness creeping into the aftertaste. My rating pertains to early tastings of the beer. APPEARANCE: clouded brown beer, small unstable head.
NOSE: alcohol bomb.
