Black body with a small, frothy head, this looks like another under-carbonated Abstrakt. Some lacing. The aroma is very strong, sweet and has lovely malty notes of dark caramel, dark chocolate and roasted notes. In addition it’s quite fruity, and in the back I get alcohol. The flavours are strong and very complex. Lightly roasted notes, dark caramel, dark chocolate, sweet and overripe fruits, liquorice, root beer and a pleasant chill burn in the aftertaste. I now read in the commercial description that the AB:11 is brewed with chipotle peppers, but I don’t really get the smoky flavours of this pepper, just the hot sensation. This is very sweet stuff, but both the moderate bitterness and the chill tame the sweetness quite efficiently. It’s a vinous brew, with well integrated and pleasant notes of alcohol. The body is full, the texture thick an oily, and even though the carbonation is extremely soft it fits the style well. A lovely beer! Ferris (15272) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 30, 2013
[37.5 cl bottle, #5264/9819, enjoyed 16 months after bottling, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]
Bottle - Dates, ginger, light berry and pepper. Jet black with a thin brown head. Sweet molasses, dark berry, ginger and a bit of pepper. Roller coaster of flavor is correct, sweet and spicy with no bitterness. Even with all the crazy flavors, it is interesting vs. disjointed and although I wouldn’t drink another I did enjoy this one. kraddel (8111) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - DEC 27, 2013
Pours very dark brown
Nearly unexisting brown head
Smell is harsh , dark fruits
Taste is bitter , than comes fruit and its sweetness , than the typical sweetness for the style . All behind a great spine of thickness and intensity .

Bottled September 2012. Consumed 1st December & again 22 Dec. Rose petal, floral aroma, dark brown with a decreasing head. Malt, raisins steeped in alcohol & ginger with a touch of soy. The chilli heat is gone though the taste is there, not as sweet as I expected. I was in no hurry to open this following the first ratings on this beer knowing that age would benefit this strong and complex brew. I love chills & I love beer but not in the same bottle though this just about gets away with it KansaiBeerLvrs (5152) - Kyoto, JAPAN - NOV 4, 2013
At the first Kinki Beer Tasting, bottle 8604 of 9819. One of the four we tried(01 02, 10, 11). This black barley wine poured a reddish dark brown almost purplish. The aroma was chili peppers & cherry cough syrup. After I said that everyone got annoyed with me for putting that taste in their minds... medium bodied with a sweet, earthy, cherry cough syrup with a dash of ginger but kind of boozy. Syrupy & a bit musty, this was my least favorite of the bunch.

Bottle no. 5736 (375ml). Half-inch offwhite head, reduces quickly to a thin ring. Dark brown/black colour, sugary swirl. Aroma of raisins, malt, vodka, molasses, menthol, cola, licorice, herbs (well blended-in ginger). Full body, flat carbonation. Sweet, quite alcoholic taste, balanced by a salty, chili-like maltiness and mild bitterness that becomes more pronounced in the finish. Yorker (2006) - Herning, DENMARK - OCT 18, 2013
Corked 37.5 cl bottle @ home (bottle #7389). Pours black with a small tan head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour is ginger, chipotle, roasted malt, dark fruits, booze, and caramel – with a slightly alcoholic and chilli-esque finish. Piero1987 (686) - Iglesias, ITALY - SEP 8, 2013
Black with beige head, not persistent. Strong chocolate malt, burnt, nuts, brandy, caramel and red fruit. At taste is sweet and smooth with fruity flavour, some chocolate and coffe notes and finish with spicy and very little bitterness of bitter cocoa. tmrmwel (2089) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 16, 2013
Bottle, # 5300. Pours dark red with a finger thick mocha head. Aroma is very nice with caramel malts, chocolate and some grainy whiffs. Creamy body with almost no carbonation at all. Flavour is sweet with sugar, prunes and dark fruit, as well as chocolate, coffee and muscovado giving a sweet and balanced finish. allmyvinyl (10613) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - AUG 15, 2013
Bottle at an Appellation Wines tasting, some time ago, but I’ve been catching up slowly. The girl next to me said, "This smells like something I would wash my hair with". A big, interesting beer, but too much ginger. Will re-rate when I crack open my own bottle.
