375ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a moderate beige head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. The aroma has dark chocolate, warm chilli, cured meat and savoury malt notes. Mild herbal and lemon hops up front gradually segue into sweet but zingy ginger. This blends surprisingly well with rich dark chocolate and toasted rye bread malt in the mid-palate. Warming chilli comes in towards the finish, where it blends very nicely with ginger and dark chocolate. There is an almost whisky and dry ginger aftertaste. This is one of those out there BrewDog beers where all the strange ingredients come together and work very well. A rich and enjoyable brew.

This 375ml bottle, no.5033, was bought at the BrewDog bar in Shoreditch London in November 2012. Coal black body, naked surface, dotted spots on the glass. Aroma of dark spices and chocolate malts. Rather unusual taste profile with variety of prunes, ginger, caramel and dark bread. Lingering spiced fruity finish. Mouth filling. Malty sticky beginning. Fresh with lots of malt, The ginger is there, the peppers as well. Hints of dried fruit, plums, probably the raspberries as well. Round, refreshing, easy to drink for the ABV, lots of chocolate roasted malt, no alcohol tasteable. Fantastic great brew! Smooth, round absolutely great! UPDATED: DEC 10, 2016 Sampled from 0.375 l bottle. Dark reddish brown with some beige bubbles on top. Sweetish, malty and quite fruity aroma of raisins, blackcurrant, plums and licorice. Sweetish-malty, spicy and moderately fruity taste of caramel, raisins, lots of licorice, plums and some chocolate, followed by a long, slightly bitter, spicy and rather warming-alcoholic finish. UPDATED: JUL 5, 2016 One of my favorites. The barley wine is in itself good, but all the layers in aromas and taste that the spice, berries and peppers bring makes it really one of a kind - that’s probably the point of the Abstrakt series. The barley wine adds the alcohol and sweet aromas, while the added tartness and smoke from the berries and the pepper makes your taste buds really work for it. Only downside is that, although an experience, it’s not very well balanced.
