UPDATED: FEB 18, 2018 Bottle off The Folks, Xmas 2016. Drank in its entirety, March 2017. No eggcup measures round here. Deep mahogany with a brief tan collar retreating to the edges of the tulip. Unsubtle, pungent, fistful of liquorice aroma with root beer, burnt fennel seed and pear drop aspects. Intensely spiced, pure licking-a-stick flavour with Everton mint and root beer touches. Sticky, mildly burnt finish. Anticlimactic and unworthy of the waxed cap, £13 a bottle treatment. Pleasant sipping but unsophisticated and lacking depth with any stout-like qualities subsumed beneath an onslaught of sugared liquorice.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2017 On tap at Carwyn Cellars. Pours black with a ruby hue. Aniseed, blackcurrant, chocolate, cherry, blueberry, more smooth chocolate. Strong liquorice, but with a nice sweet fruitiness to balance and plenty of stout in the background. Not full of subtlety, but full of flavour. dogbomb (1265) - ENGLAND - AUG 16, 2017
Bottle. Breaking open a wax seal always feels pretty special. The colour is deep brown, almost black with ruby hints. Thin dark brown head. Nose is cough drops, ribena blackcurrants. Fishermans friends. Taste is heavy! A massive pow of whisky-like alcohol burn. A lot of dark roast notes. Charcoal. It makes my spit go thick. Blackcurrant. Salt Licorice. Some vanilla notes. Blackcurrant is there but hard to dig out. There’s aniseed. A stickiness on the lips. A complex sipping ale, but not an altogether pleasant one for my particular tastes.
