Golden liquid with a tiny white head. Smells like wine and apples. Taste is sour and dry, with a hint of malt. Not my kind of beer at all. brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - DEC 2, 2012
Orange colored pour with a white head. Intense diacetyl aroma, some oak, and citrus peel. Very grassy, vegetal, and some fruit notes. A bit of water, too. The flavor is somewhat sweet with a bit of pale malt. There’s some oak, a hint of whiskey, and lots of butter. Some grass, cooked vegetables, citrus peel, and a weird savory note. Golden with lasting off-white head.
Fruity and malty and sweet aroma. Citrus, slightly tart taste with still some fruit and malts and less sweet than aroma.
Really a strange beast. Quite tasty, but strange. And is this really the regular 77 barrel aged? Can that really raise the ABV that much?
Tasted side by side with the regular they are quite different. I certainly prefer this. Ungstrup (37625) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - NOV 7, 2012
Bottled. A golden beer with a huge white head. The aroma has notes of butter and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of butter, wood, and malt, leading to a dry finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a clear golden with a small white head. Sweet and perfumy whisky aroma. Medium body, malty, flowery hops, slightly tart and then quite some whisky accents. Lightly bitter. A rare barrel aged Lager! 071112 ClubGonzo (5670) - Bergen, NORWAY - NOV 6, 2012
Bottle from BrewDog webshop. "Lager" and "barrel" in the same sentence seems tantalizing enough for me to be in a real curious mode when I pop this one open. Pours a deep clear golden bubbly body with a medium, short-lasting white head. Nose is heavy oaky vanilla fudge tones, caramel pudding, butterscotch and toffee with notes of syrup in the back. Sweet indeed! Taste is not so sweet. Instead, a slightly sour berry-like taste comes up front, followed by a burnt sugar-kinda caramel current, wrapped in strong oak and vanilla tones. The barrel has really taken its toll on the strong lager, making the otherwise semi-crisp mouthfeel into a dry, nearly parching finish with some fresh wood and grass notes in the aftertaste. Weird and very original, and not entirely without merit. Perhaps a bit more on the "interesting" than "delicious" side of things, but definitely not bad at all. In fact, I think I like this hybrid from BrewDog. Beer5000 (6489) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - NOV 6, 2012
330 ml bottle. Barrel aged lager, WTF. What a crazy idea, probably a bad idea but I like the idea more than the beer. It’s slightly cloudy golden with a small and fast diapering white head. The aroma has caramel, vanilla and some butterscotch. Pretty unusually in the nose. Flavor is sweet and acidic, light malty, oak, vanilla, some bitterness and a hint of butterscotch. Medium body and the aftertaste is just the same weird flavor as the rest of it. Just a bunch of strange flavor without any balance and actually not nice at all. I just love to hate this one.
