COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
keg/nitro/bottle
A 10% decadent and indulgent Imperial Russian Stout. Brewed with a copious amount of dark malts, infused with coffee beans during the boil and after fermentation and aged on cacao nibs, vanilla pods and toasted oak chips. This opulent whirl of chocolate, coffee, dark malts and hops even rivals the most colourful of imperial Faberge eggs. Originally created to celebrate the Russian Royal Family, this is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.

Bov (13442) - Bienne, - MAY 30, 2014
from Amstein - black beer with a poor head retention; robust roasted aroma of chocolate and mocha; notes of vanilla and tobacco; full-bodied and fairly sweet, some earthy tartness, light sticky and quite bitter; some residual sweetness, long chocolatey aftertaste, roasted and with more notes of tobacco and ashes - pretty impressive

Bottle, bb 06/11/21. Pours dark brown with very, fast falling head. Aroma of cocoa, coffee, vanilla, light oak, dark fruits and some soy sauce. Medium sweet with ashy bitter finish.

Bottle, 0.33l. Thick black pour, one finger dark brown head. Frothy, medium retention, good lacing. Nose loaded with coffee, cocoa and dark fruits. Medium body, medium carbonation. Regular texture, surprisingly light mouthfeel. Bittersweet taste with decent emphasis on bitterness, nicely roasted. Malty aroma, caramel and roasted malts. Coffee, cappuccino, plum and raisins, slightly smoked. Woody, charred, bitter notes throughout the finish. Slightly dry and boozy. Overall, pretty good IS. Tasty and well balanced but not a world beater.

Draft. Chocolate malt, ash, and hay aroma. Black with small tan head. Moderate sweet chocolate malt, and moderately bitter hay/orange peel flavor. Good body. Extremely smooth - hides its strength incredibly well.

Pours with no head really. Color is very, very dark coffee or muddy water. Aroma is noticeably metallic and has rye and some sort of exotic plant (not flower, but more like a leaf), fresh (moist) earth, maybe a hint of fresh fish (not fishy, but how fresh fish smells). Interesting, unordinary aroma, although quite gentle. Palate is very nice, balanced, but not too soft. It has a nice "density" or "solidity" to it. Taste is quite harmonious to the taste, but is less "odd". Compromised maltiness, compromised burnt notes, noticeable bitterness (but not spiky, nor too much of it), layers of floral and herbal between the other compressed things. It's truly surprisingly dense and compressed taste, but still quite fragrant. There's no noticeable cocoa that I can tell, even when the name has it. Okay dry and slightly bitter finish. A good all-arounder. Particularly I like that it's an imperial stout that's not too rich, not too sweet, but not too dry or uninteresting either. It's light, but not weak. There's very little to complain about.

At Le Trappiste, Bruges. Pours cloudy black with a thick, lasting, dark beige head. Intense aroma of milk chocolate, cocoa beans, vanilla, some cream, roasted malt, hops, dried dark fruits. It tastes medium chocolatey sweet and light to medium hoppy bitter with fondant accents; dry, roasted, slightly hoppy finish and warming alcohol of 'creamy jenever'. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Delicious, great in all aspects, even though I had the feeling I was rather chewing than drinking.

Fles geprobeerd met LiekevdV en PatrickvL. Het is een diep zwart bier met een dun bruin schuim. Het heeft een wijnachtige geur. De smaak is gebrand, koffie met cacao in de nasmaak.

Pours dark black with a tan head and thick lacing. Aroma is coffee, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, ash, plum and raisin. Taste is sweet with a dry and long bitter finish and thick body. Powerful stuff, albeit too much coffee to my taste.

From bottle. Small dark head, pitch black colour. Aroma: soy sauce, coffee, alcohol. Sour with dry/coffee aftertaste. Full body, rather astringent finish, thick, oily, flat. Generally not bad, but it is a little bit too dry.

Bottle from Pivný raj What great evening I'm having. One black beauty followed by another where this sticks to the game. Both in taste and aroma raisins play the prime for me while the coffee and dark chocolate doesn't want to stay behind. Lovely.
