A 10% decadent and indulgent Imperial Russian Stout. Brewed with a copious amount of dark malts, infused with coffee beans during the boil and after fermentation and aged on cacao nibs, vanilla pods and toasted oak chips. This opulent whirl of chocolate, coffee, dark malts and hops even rivals the most colourful of imperial Faberge eggs. Originally created to celebrate the Russian Royal Family, this is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.

Black liquid with really dark head. Rich chocolate, roasted malt, some alcohol, sweet caramel. Medium to full bodied with quite high sweetness and balancing bitterness at the end.

On tap at Brewdog USA. Pours black with small tan head that lasts. The aroma is smoke, oak, roast, peat. Thick, chewy, roast, smoke, chocolate, peat, boozy finish, very good.

Draft at source. Ohio. Pitch black pour small head. Aroma is roasty and coffee. Moderately sweet. Alcohol is well hidden. Taste isnít that overpowering. Cocoa is minimal. A great Stout but I donít get the cocoa as a great benefit.

330 ml bottle, blach with very dark brown head. coffee, vanilla, chocolate, roasty, slightly metallic, caramel, light to medium sweetness with nice bitterness, well balanced quite a high viscosity, thick feel, full body, soft carbonation, warming

PowY (697) - AUSTRIA - JUN 15, 2017
330 ml bottle. Pours a thick, oily, nearly black red-brown with a creamy tan colored head. Aroma of roasted malt with coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate, nuts, ash. Very pleasant smell not harsh at all and with a light alcoholic touch. Full oily body with a low carbonation, a light to medium sweetness and a light bitterness. The flavor is again full of strongly roasted malt (chocolate, soy sauce, dark coffee (in particular towards the finish), dark fruits, vanilla, tobacco), rather full of aromas and nicely balanced with an faint underlying hop presence with herbal and maybe even light citric note. Finishes with a pleasant roasted bitterness and a lightly warming alcoholic feeling. Excellent.

Appearance: Dark black brown. Opaque. Thin layer of mocha foam. Nose: Dark chocolate, vanilla, oak. Boozy. Taste: Rich deep and full with dark chocolate, roasty, notes of roasty coffee beans and nuts. A touch bourbon barrel? Body: Medium to fuller with lighter carbonation. Parting thoughts: A full and strong imperial stout. Very nice. Classic flavor profile done well.

Bottle from Dog Tap at Ellon. Pours thick solid black with dark tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee, dark chocolate, spice with alcohol. Taste is reasonably sweet with firm hop bitterness, a bit like a bitter dark chocolate liqueur. Vanilla, coffee, licorice, chocolate and burnt toffee all in the taste. Somewhat oily mouthfeel with carbonation zest. Decent residual hop bitterness on back palate. Overall this is certainly a massive imperial stout. Ideal as an after dinner sipper. Another good one from Brewdog. Good to see that they are keeping their standards up during this turbulent period of company expansion.

Poured from the tap at Brewdog Shoreditch. Literally black on the glass with a short tan head. Coffee and chocolate overload on the nose. More coffe and chocolate on the palate with definite roasted malt character and a hint of vanilla. Light carbonation with a residual chocolate flavour.

Salwal (486) - GERMANY - MAY 23, 2017
