Bottled. Deep ambery brown colour, close to black, with a mediumsized beige fluffy head. Aroma is roasted malts, mild leathery and honeyish notes as well as some berries. Flavour is coffee, chocolate, some bitter floral and fruitiness as well as some honey and mildly leathery notes. Quite a bunch of things in it, but still the result is a quite nice and balanced brew. cgarvieuk (26029) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 22, 2012

Opaque dark brown beer with a tidy tan head. Palate is crisp and dry. Minerally dark malt with a strong coffee and marmite streak. Trace of sweet fruit underneath. Minerally fresh and tangy, Okay but something of a retrograde step for this beer methinks.
On tap. Pours black and opaque with a small beige head. Nose has loads of prune and a little licorice. Quite full-bodied, again pruney dried fruit with the licorice note geting even more pronounced. Hardly any bitterness. Very pleasant and Old Aleish. 170512 Beerhunter111 (22550) - P´Castle, GERMANY - DEC 17, 2015
