Bottle… Hazy orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head that never fully dissipates. As soon as I pop the cap, tropical fruits hit me in a big way. After the pour, notes of raw wood, funky laundry, bready yeast, alcohol and unleavened bread (cracker) are detected. Full-bodied and chewy with tingly carbonation. The flavor offers rich caramel malts, but they are overshadowed by heavily bitter, tannic, resinous hops. Finishes bitter, tongue-numbing and bone-dry. Hazy amber with medium off-white head. Flavour is malt, caramel, fruit, bitter and hops.
Bottle from Høkeren, Copenhagen. Pours a clear, deep light amber-colored body with a big, white head. Nose gives me well-toned floral, fruity hops: raspberries, peaches, honey-tainted floral notes. Nice. Taste is more malty and round than expected from the aroma, with hints of peaches and grassy, earthy notes finely interconnected throughout the palate. Bitter aftertaste, but just enough to sharpen your lust for another sip. Very well integrated and fresh-tasting. This is one surprisingly balanced IPA from BrewDog, whom I’ve come to associate with more or less excessive experimental stuff. Hårdkogt IPA, despite the name ("Hårdkogt" means "hard boiled") in Danish) is a solid and easy-going, yet tasteful creation from my favorite Scots. Bullseye.
