An epic fusion of age old Belgian tradition, American new wave brewing and the world of Scotch whisky.
Mix Tape 8 is a blend of two huge oak aged beers – half a hopped up Belgian Tripel, and half a Triple India Pale Ale. These beers have both been aged in single grain whisky barrels for close to two years and finally blended to create a beer that our head brewer Stewart Bowman can most helpfully describe as ‘fucking complex’.
Mix Tape 8 is a high octane blend of styles, influences and processes. This beer is a blend of 2 huge oak aged India Pale Ales. Half of this beer is rooted in an amped up, hopped up Belgian Tripel which has been aged in Scotch Whisky casks for almost 2 years. The other half of the equation is a triple India Pale Ale which has also been aged in Scotch Whisky barrels for close to 2 years. This beer is inspired by the Belgian Monastic brewing tradition and its centuries of heritage, the hopped up American new wave craft brewing and everything that rocks about Scotch Whisky barrels and oak aging.

Bue en bouteille de 33cl. Style brandy, sucré, liquoreux. Sublime assemblage, un grand plaisir à boire.

330ml bottle @Overpriced Beer Tasting. Hazy copper color. Tiny size, bubbly head, disappears. Malty, berries, candy, red currant in aroma. Sweet, sugar crystals, raw malty taste. If head brewer describes it as "fuckin complex" I describe it as "fuckin mess".

200€ worth of beer. Malty and sweet. Feel like a caramel malt extraction with load of brown sugar. A good brew, but not worth it.

330ml bottle (the 200e of overpriced shit session)
Sticky stodgy malty aroma. Dark, tan head. Dirty palate. Some marker pen esters, gonna get high. Odd citrussy twist in the retronasals. Pretty rough malty body stodgy. wet rye bread. Finish is just the fading of the taste, nothing new. Do like the malts. This wanted to be AleSmith Wee Heavy. This failed so badly.

A favorite, big aroma of plum and oak.. Not much of a top, medium brown redish... The taste is complex, it had a Belgian ale flavor, both with several twists... The feel in the mouth is amazing, a light sizzle yet very smooth.. Taste is very full and complex, definitely a malty beer, good balance between sweetness and alcohol, a deep complex taste, umami, plum and oak cask... Mmmm a good substitute for whiskey or cognac.. One of my favorite beers ever... Great

330ml bottle mail order from brewery. Deep dark copper brown colour, with no head. The aroma is deep caramel toffee, and stewed fruit. Really sweet, and stewed fruit and alcohol. And a great bottle label too!

[6556-20140723] Bottle. Mild fruity grains aroma. Clear, amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Super sweet toasted toffee flavour has a long-lasting sweet tea aftertaste. Medium body is surprisingly boozy, wait, what? It’s 14.5%?? Tasty, nice toffee notes but quite boozy. (7/4/8/3/15) 3.7

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2014 Bottle. Gift, likely bought from the BrewDog website. The first beer drunk in my new digs in Ely. Dark reddish brown, almost mahogany. An incredibly complex, confusing and exciting smell as befits the recipe. Red wine, whisky, wood, strong iced tea, caramel, rosemary. Taste is an overwhelming sweet matched by an intense bourbon alcoholic sour. Thick mouthfeel with very little carbonation. Papaya in the finish. Extreme and gorgeous.

From a 330ml bottle on 24/11/2014. Pours a clear light amber with not much of a head. Has a huge malty aroma with lots of toffee, butterscotch, brown sugar, along with a distinct hint of booze. In the mouth, it’s sweet delight with more toffee, butterscotch and brown sugar, as well as caramel, treacle and golden syrup. Then you get a moderate countering hop bitterness with the whisky quite evident. While the blurb refs an IPA base, it’s more barley wine in character, though I won’t argue with the American strong ale label either. The palate is slightly syrupy and the carbonation modest. Not the most complex big beer I’ve ever had, but it’s a delicious and moreish dessert brew.
