COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
keg and bottled, special
An epic fusion of age old Belgian tradition, American new wave brewing and the world of Scotch whisky.
Mix Tape 8 is a blend of two huge oak aged beers – half a hopped up Belgian Tripel, and half a Triple India Pale Ale. These beers have both been aged in single grain whisky barrels for close to two years and finally blended to create a beer that our head brewer Stewart Bowman can most helpfully describe as ‘fucking complex’.
Mix Tape 8 is a high octane blend of styles, influences and processes. This beer is a blend of 2 huge oak aged India Pale Ales. Half of this beer is rooted in an amped up, hopped up Belgian Tripel which has been aged in Scotch Whisky casks for almost 2 years. The other half of the equation is a triple India Pale Ale which has also been aged in Scotch Whisky barrels for close to 2 years. This beer is inspired by the Belgian Monastic brewing tradition and its centuries of heritage, the hopped up American new wave craft brewing and everything that rocks about Scotch Whisky barrels and oak aging.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Vova’s place. Thanks Vova. Clear amber-chestnut color. Nice aroma of lots of whiskey, vanilla, wood, malt, caramel and a bit of alcohol. Very sweet flavor, malty, caramelly, with lots of whiskey, vanilla, a bit of nuts, a bit of stale hops, alcohol and a slightly bitterish finish. Medium to full-bodied, quite alcoholic, a bit syrupy.

Scopey (14730) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 29, 2013
Bottle from BD Shoreditch. It pours deep reddish-amber with a medium beige head. The nose is candy, caramel, raisin, plum, grape, vanilla, sweet whisky, wood and plenty of fruit cake. The taste is sweet bubblegum, brown sugar, raisin, plum, prune, golden syrup, smoke, wood, toast, light bitterness, varnish, spice, mild astringency and medicinal notes with a bitter-sweet finish. Full body, fine, prickly carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. Good depth of flavour, but it is ultimately rather sweet and sticky. OK for a small pour, but I couldn’t through much of this...

Bottle at home from Brewdog online, pulled out from the back of the cellar. A lightly hazed sticky amber / orange coloured pour with a fading light tan head. Aroma is sweet toffee, woody , mint, brown sugars, brandy, boozey fruit pudding. Little age and jammy fruits on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of very sweet sticky earthy toffee, burnt toffee, boozy cognac, whiskey, jammy fruits and boozzy cakey malts. A little bitter woody tannin in the finish. Palate is medium sweet and sticky, lowish carbonation, viscous.. Held up pretty well with age.
