This bottle contains an India Pale Ale from a bygone era. An era of towering sailing ships, burgeoning empires and world shaping beers. This is an ale hand crafted with British malts and English hops to recreate the epic IPAs that were sent on monumental ocean voyages from England to India by sea in the 1800s.

Old World IPA is an attempt by punk post modern Scottish Brewers to pay tribute to a 200 year old odyssey and heritage with a healthy dose of swash-buckling adventure.

A quite conventional ipa. Tasty, little bitter. Balanced. A real conversation go-er. I consider this time warp from brewdog a success. Beautiful bottle. Very balanced beer. If you expect their normal extreme tastes, you might be dissapointed. But if you want a good balanced malty ipa, easy on the tongue. Go for this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)

(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of citrus, orange (hard orange candy), apricots, grapefruit, black-currant, some toffee and earthy, citric hops. Malty, fruity taste with citrus, pink grapefruit, apricots, some honey, caramel and a generous citric, slightly earthy, bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly dry. Tasty and well balanced IPA with a generous dose of English hops. Nice one.

If this is the type of IPA they made in the 1800s, I’m glad I didn’t live then. Grass, bread, some herbs, citrus and pine. Sweet, bitter, fruity, grass taste. All over the place, never settling down. Finally a bitter and herbal finish. Didn’t like it.

From tap. Almost clear golden color with off white head. Malty aroma and light hoppy, caramel, bread, straw, grassy, light pine and citrus. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

This bottle was generously shared by Stephan, thanks! What a beauty this old world ipa is! It pours a gorgeous old gold with a thin moussy slightly offwhite head. Your nose dives straight away in a world of fruit, hops, honey, hay, damp cloth, sweet orange, malt and yeast. The taste is a beautiful balance between sweet and bitter: sweet and bitter fruits, honey, orange peel, apple, a light calvados-like warming glow, infact a very poetic ipa, not extreme but its subtle beauty knocks your cloggs right off! No more words are necessary, this ode to the old style ipa is a class on its own...( I can’t help wondering: did it better its betters?) Thanks Brewdog! Love it!

One of BrewDog’s two ’hommages’ to the great international beer styles of the 19the century, from a 75 cl bottle with fascinating, elaborate label telling the story of India pale ale. Thanks to Stefan for sharing this. Thick and stable, frothy, sticky, off-white head over a hazy, deep and warm orangey blonde, almost amber coloured beer. Lovely aroma of English style IPA at its best: dried flowers, white pepper, straw, dried orange peel, bread crust, whisky, roasted peanuts, dust and some oxidized caramelly malts. Clean fruitiness in the onset, soft, dried apricot with a touch of redcurrant, gently carbonated with a smooth, caramelly and very lightly nutty malt body, supple and smoothly leading to a complex, peppery and very floral hop bitter ending, with a deep earthy bitterness but remaining ’friendly’ in comparison with the tsunami of American style IPAs which floods the world these days. I have heard some older English beer lovers worrying about the survival of the original English interpretation of this omnipresent style, but if they all reach this level of quality, it can perfectly hold its own in this ever changing beer world in spite of, or perhaps thanks to, its long history.

Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Nice bege lasting head. Opaque dark golden color. Very nice caramell maltiness and woody hop aroma. Woody hop taste with small caramell taste and medium body. Small sweetness and well balanced.

Smaksprøve fra Rune. Gyldenbrun. Veldig lavt skum med ørlite lacing. Ferskenaroma på et underlag av malt. Smaken tørr fruktig med malt lurende under. Litt uvariert.
