Imperial Stout aged in American Bourbon Barrels for 12 months. A schizophrenic translatlantic son of a bitch of a beer. Huge, decadent imperial stout clashes in the most beautiful way with the best incarnation of the American Dream since Nixon choked on a cheeseburger. We think this might just be the best Paradox ever. Available in both keg and bottle.

Dark brown, near black body with a beige cap. Aromas of sweet bourbon, oak, chocolate. Tannic with dark chocolates and a subtle touch of pine and hops in the finish. Tasty.

330 ml bottle. Clear black body with a small beige head. Lovely aroma of dark, roasted malt, perfumed Bourbon, vanilla, wood and roasted coffee. Flavor is much as expected from aroma, dark medium roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, lots of Bourbon, vanilla wood and very balanced bitterness, mild in carbonation. Full bodied with long lasting aftertaste. A really nice one in the Paradox series. I see several older comments on the alcohol/booze, but I can only taste this as a nice and warming thing, it might have something with my bottle being well stored for a while.

Pitch black with a small head. Delicate carbonation and thick body. The aroma is coffee, black chocolate, dark dried fruits, orange peel and lots of bourbon. Taste is even better. Sweet and roasted. Several layers. Beginning sweet and chocolate. Evolves into deeper molasses and darker roasted nuances. Then I get more and more dark fruits and even more deeper chocolate. Bourbon and spikes of alcohol in the finish but all covered by creamy sweetness. That's an intensive RIS. Good stuff.

A: Pitch black with a thin nougat lacing head. N: Oak, vanilla, almond, alcohol, hazelnut, wet wood, liqourice, chocolate, toffee, caramel T: toffee, caramel, coffee, vanilla, dark berries O: Wow!! This is amazing! I love the sweet toffee, vanilla fudge explosion!

Whoa! Pours like old engine oil. Head has big bubbles that give way to a honeycomb mousse. Bouquet of bourbon, vanilla, chocoate and malt. Oily soft mouth feel with a riot of flavours - plumb pudding, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, cinammon, charcoal, sultanas. They mask the crazy high alcohol remarkably well. I have had beers with half the alcohol that tasted more like alcohol. By the time you reach the bottom of the glass you can feel the effects - warm ears and that tingly feeling. Once the main palate has subsided the finish is creamy chocolate and sweet malt with that bourbon flaring in the nostrils. An epic drop with an equally epic pricetag. Worth it? Absolutely!

Imperial Stout rating #50. Boxed bottle. Dark body, small tan head. Aroma has sweet woody bourbon barrel with more toffee sweetness than alcohol sharpness. Mouthfeel is a bit too thin for such a strong beer. Taste has chocolaty malts with a lot of bourbon. Yeah, mostly bourbon in taste. I’m surprised that it doesn’t get overly hot despite the thin body and very high ABV. Maybe it’s because my mind classifies this as a spirit and would accept much higher levels of booze to be normal here. Anyway, it’s a good crossover drink. For a great Imperial Stout, I would expect it to have a richer body and more malt influence, not just straight bourbon. But since we’re rating on a hedonistic scale... I must admit I am enjoying this quite a bit! A few minus points for a too prohibitive price (12€). Other breweries are offering similar BA stouts for around half the price. So, under what part of "punk" ethos does "selling your beer at the highest price the market can bear" go?

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

mariuspoenari (2692) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - NOV 10, 2015
UPDATED: DEC 14, 2015 Dark and smooth pour, creamy head about 1 cm tall that disappears quite fast. Smells like chocolate, cocoa, dark cherries, dried fruit (raisins) and heavy bourbon. Tastes like dark chocolate, vanilla, heavy malt sugars and has a very nice, though a bit powerful, bourbon feel. Very well balanced, it has a very smooth and thick texture. The alcohol is well hidden, mostly covered by the malt sugars, but becomes more present as the drink gets warmer.

zacgillbanks (5185) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - NOV 6, 2015
Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Aged for around 16 months. Inky black with a rapidly disappearing thin tan head of foam. It has an extremely rich bitter dark chocolate, oak, vanilla and bourbon flavour with a strong leather and powerful roasted smooth, warming alcoholic finish. Nice but a bit too high ABV.
