3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
To be completely fair, I found this as the last bottle available at a shop. So I am pretty sure the beer was aged and exposed to conditions well beyond what was good for it. However, there was still enough of the original character left to rate the beer. The aromas are dark chocolate, vanilla, and a touch of smoke. Deep black with no head at all. Bitter with notes of roast and smoke throughout. Full bodied with a long bitter finish.
Bottled, 330ml, aged 8 years from Westholme Stores, Goring, Oxon. Black with tan head. There is a heavy smoky note, smouldering peat, sooty chimney in character, black roasted, burnt malts in front of a sloe fruitiness. Licorice and an earthy, charcoal wood bitterness. Phew. Dark brown/black with a light brown head. Aroma is whiskey, smoke, leather, some dark fruits. Full bodied, smoky on the palate, lightly bitter finish. Taste is whiskey, smoke, leather, raisins. Ferris (15901) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 18, 2015
Bottle - Smoke and peat with rich roast malts. Deep jet purple with a light beige head. Wet wood and peat. Roasty bitterness in the finish. Nice. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - AUG 29, 2014
12-oz. Pours ebony with a scant tan head that disappears right away. Forward peaty nose, very earthy and dense though not overwhelming. Creamy thick body with soft carbonation. Earthy, peaty, leathery mid palate--mostly peat. Some baking chocolate. Very smooth and balanced with 6 years on it. Long earthy peaty finish.

Pour is orange/brown with a very small tan head that fades quickly. Aroma and flavor are extremely smoky - notes of peat, dark chocolate, burnt coffee, earth, and scotch. Finish is dry and boozy. Scopey (14990) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 28, 2014
Bottle via trade at BD Aberdeen tasting Xmas 2013. It pours pretty much black with a tiny tan head. The nose is soft roast, smoked peat, whisky, wood, lightly spiced and some toffee and chocolate in the background. The taste is smooth, roasted malt, dirt, wood, well-hidden alcohol, cocoa, toffee, subtle vanilla, light smoke, whisky and an air of mustiness about it. A relatively short finish by Paradox standards. Medium+ body, low carbonation and soft mouth-feel. Perhaps a bit over the hill, but tasty enough nonetheless. The smoke and peat in this one are probably the 2nd strongest after smokehead, but i think they are at the perfect level for how i dig peat and smoke. Really compliments the chocolate and caramel in the base beer. The alcohol is really mellow, i wonder how a bottle of this is when it is younger then 6 years old, i wouldn’t mind a touch more heat on it honestly, but i know most do prefer low heat, so this is a win for you. mouthfeel is medium-thin and low carbonation. Pick up the body a bit and this would be slamming.
