2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
this bottle was on sale at the local total wine & more. i was intrigued by the "macallan" on the label. the aroma is sweet but relatively light. appearance had no head, otherwise basic stout darkness. taste was oxidized and light. I suppose oxidized makes sense as i was drinking in jan 2013 and the bottle was filled march 2009. I have no idea how it was stored prior to me buying it a week or so ago. palate was thin and light. overall it just lacked the complexity i expected. probably just poorly cared for and past its prime.
From a 33 cl bottle marked best before 3 Pours black with no head. Light whiskey aroma. Flavors of oak, peat smoke, and toffee. No carbonation. Smooth rich finish. zach8270 (4021) - Henrietta, New York, USA - FEB 26, 2015
(bottle - 330 ml - 2008 vintage) Really looking forward to this one. A combination of one of my favorite scotches and a stout. Dark black pour with a thin tan head. Sweet aroma, probably from the sherry cask, with a lot of coffee and roasted dark fruits. Flavor is sweet and roasty at the same time. Dark fruits and coffee coming up at the end. Aroma is very big, notes of chocolate, semi-sweet caramel, tofee, malt sugar, molasses, brown sugar, "ovaltine" if you know what that is, aroma is very thick. Pours a nice thick black with a very small head with no retention. Taste is chocolate, metal, caramel, espresso, anise, sweet cream, chocolate malt, vanilla, roasty-toasty. Very big flavors that intermingle quite well. kayres (888) - , Georgia, USA - JAN 9, 2015

Hog shack bottle share. Dark brown and ruby highlights. No cap. Aroma of sherry, wood, raisin, vanilla, more booze, chocolate. Taste is sweet and a good balanced bitter. Finish is nice n dry, but not too crazy. ericdevin (988) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - MAY 5, 2014
Bottle from Corvallis Brew Supply, Oregon. Pours very dark, little to no tan head. Aroma huge, rich, whiskey spilling out, lovely. Body slightly broken down, but still robust. Finish woody, earthy chocolate. Nice if a bit thin bc of age. crazyvin (2026) - New York, USA - SEP 15, 2013
a opaque black body with barley any head. Looked a little watery. Aroma had nice notes of oak, coffee malts and alcohol. There was mild hints of chocolate. Flavor seemed to have good balance. The oak and scotch notes were subtle enough to not over power the other flavors. Nice warming sense of alcohol in the finish. Minderbinder (3469) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 18, 2013

Pours black with low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, fruits, sugar, sherry, caramel. Taste is of chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, alcohol. Palate: Full bodied. Overall: Surprisingly "drinkable". Not bad at all.
post-cascade + upright tasting sessions - ’coz we’re porks. pours light brown burgundy without a head. burnt caramel, maple and lactose-like sweetness, perfumy, spoiled fruitiness - cherries and red grapes, some smoke, earhty/dirt. moderate to low carbonation, medium body - oily, cloying and mineral finish. perhaps past its time but still feels/tastes like a weak imperial stout, even without a barrel treatment. last bottle of two extended tasting sessions. cannot always be great, right..
