From a 33 cl bottle shared in Avon NC. Marked 005 06/06/09 on the bottle. Pours a deep cola brown with a scant head. Aroma of oak and whiskey. Flavors also include chocolate and licorice and a hint of leather. Quite complex. Low carbonation. Slight bitter finish. A complex and tasty brew.

Scopey (15281) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 7, 2013
Bottle from Charleston Beer Exchange. it pours black with a medium tan head. The nose is sweet vanilla, fudge, toffee, coffee, wood, light oxidised notes, toast, cocoa powder and earth. The taste is roasted malt, toast, sweet coffee, vanilla, toffee, some acidity, fudge, mild activity, earth, light alcohol warmth and decent bitterness with a dry, roasty finish. Medium-full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Smooth and big wood character, yet quite mellow. Has agred rather gracefully.

Black in color with khaki head. Smoke and peat on the nose with a lot of roast. Coffee, dark chocolate, metal, and soap. Some mild caramel sweetness on the finish. The flavor is quite smokey, peaty, and soapy. Some bitter chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. A bit of caramel, oak, and alcohol.

330 ml bottle sampled in 2009. Pitch black body with a small and fast disappearing beige head. Strong and pleasant aroma of peat, wood, dark malt, bitter coffee and whisky. Flavor is as aroma with nice warming alcohol. Fine body and amazing aftertaste. Strong but balanced, at least for sipping.

nsquishee (641) - Richfield, Minnesota, USA - DEC 20, 2012
Awesome bourbon and coffee aroma. Tastes good with nice flavors of charred bourbon barrel, coffee, chocolate, and bourbon spice. Very nice, just wish it had a not more body/thickness.

ericdevin (988) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - DEC 18, 2012
Bottle at 16 Tons Winter/Strong Ale Festival. Pours a deep, dark black, little head, aroma is thick, rich, smoky/malty. Body is syrupy and viscous, finish is very complex, barrels are prominent but not overwhelming. Really nice, but I’ll probably never have the chance to have it again.

BVery (10716) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - OCT 11, 2012
Bottle. Very dark pour with minimal head. Terrific aroma - whiskey and wood. Palate is moderate. Taste is the same elements as the aroma but not as pronounced. Still yummy.

sonnycheeba (6214) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAY 12, 2012
Bottle. Pours opaque black with thin, fizzy tan heady; short retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted and caramel malt, figs, dates, plums, scotch, vanilla, earthy hops, chocolate, and oak. Flavor is malt forward with good supporting dark fruit esters and faint hops; scotch undertones throughout with a dry, oak finish. Medium/full body, low carbonation, and high warmth. Definitely past its prime, but still a good beer.

2.9
Koelschtrinker (20782) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUN 1, 2011
Dunkler Malzantrunk. /9/9/10/11/9

Doodler (318) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 11, 2011
Bottle of Batch 5. Crazy pitch-black pour with a tiny brownish head.. Light aroma of malts, dark fruit, chocolate and peated whiskey. Flavor is sticky sweet with smoky vanilla notes. Loads of scotch backbone with hints of chocolate-covered cherries, Chewable malts and a woodiness throughout.. I love good scotch and this one works for me. Dry, malt finish. Velly nice.....
