Pours black with no head. The aroma is a strange mix of dark malts, some whisky, maybe some smoke. The flavor is slightly sweet, not as complex or interesting as some of their others.

Bottle. Black in colour. Viscous. Tarry. Very malty (burnt/roast malts, caramel, toffee, dark chocolate, liquorice). Fruity (dark fruits). Hoppy (bitter earthy hops). Alcohol (whisky) very noticeable. Underlying sweetness but overshadowed by the burnt/roasty malts and the whisky. Dry finish. Good, but I preferred the others that I tried [Smokehead (Batch 15), Isle of Arran (Batch 16) and Springbank (Batch 17)]. (2008)

Dark brown, nice ruby glint and a decent ringed head. Odd seedy berry, blackberry perhaps, but tired old ale vibe here. Initial taste is stewed tea, bread crust and spicy earl grey. Soft, thinning but drag of mouthfeel. Finishes mouldy, tarry and linger is woody sweet.

Trotzdem lecker. 13+12+12+12

Pours a thick black from the bottle with minimal bubbly tan head that doesnt leave lace. Aroma is heavy on the whiskey, oak and peat, with a hint of vanilla behind it. Taste follows, add a bit of chocolate and roast. The barrel on this went a little overboard and take over the stout, which is also kind of thin. Not bad, but not great.

Almost black, minimal boring head. Nose is super sweet, some chocolate and caramel not much booziness on the nose. Thin taste, lots of oak, some tobacco and charred wood. Bitter medicinal finish with some residual sweetness. "best by 09" obviously well past its prime

Bottle, many thanks to CGarvie! It pours deep brown with a reddish hue and a small quickly dissipating beige head. The nose is earth, wood, mellow roast, light smoke, dates and stewed cherry. The taste is roasted malt, cocoa, earth, spice, oxidised notes, light bitteress, rubber, cracked black pepper, dust and coffee grinds with a very dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Great to try, but over the hill methinks.
