The beer I fell in love ten years ago and now the original version is back again. And it still tastes good. So perfect. The main reason why I love IPAs. androman (2806) - Maarssen, NETHERLANDS - APR 29, 2017
33cl bottle at home from Brewdog webshop. Nose is rather malty. Body is clear pale golden, head is small, white, creamy, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma is malty, tea, leaves, grapefruit. Light to medium sweet, medium bitter. Finish is long lasting hoppy medium bitter. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Easy, refreshing, simpler and less citric - fruity than the new version, nice one. basjansen14 (455) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - APR 29, 2017

Batch 170166 CB4, best before 18/07/17, aperta il 23 aprile 2017.
Ben carbonata, corpo medio. Sebilinz (2621) - Linz, AUSTRIA - APR 21, 2017
Bottle. Golden body white head. Was really looking forward for this rebrew, as I think that I had, the original once before my rate beer days and as I can remember it was not my favorite, the new one is fresh, still one of my faves. Aroma is fruity herbal with light malts in the background. Taste is malty some fruits hints of herbs. Aftertaste is is nice bitter slightly balanced by some malty sweetness. Was expecting more. 33cl. Bottle. AGM rebrew. mR_fr0g (13517) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 13, 2017
Pours clear yellow with white head.
Aroma pine, some citrus, biscuit, caramel.
Taste biscuit sweets, piney bitter.
Mouthfeel bit oily.
I like the current version better.
Had loads of this back in the day, but I don’t rate from memory so I was happy to see them re brew this. Keg at Brewdog Soho. This rebrew is a shadow of the original, maybe it is just my terrible memory. A clear golden orange coloured pour with a lasting thin white head. Aroma is spicy lemon rind, hop, cereal grains, rustic straw, jammy fruits.. Flavour is composed of grassy lemon hop. Simple base grains. Palate is semi crisp semi sweet, moderate carbonation.. Disappointed, no big Nelson Sauvin character I remember. Would have been a 3.8 from memory. LazyPyro (1602) - Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2017
330ml bottle from BrewDog Online (rebrewed for the AGM). Drinking this alongside a current Punk IPA to directly compare...
Crystal clear golden-amber appearance with a one-finger white head, fairly good retention. Aroma: earthy, resinous hops, pale malt, grapefruit, other fruits, citrus, peel. Taste: same as the aroma, fruity and earthy, grapefruit, vague tropical fruits, resin, malt, long lasting strong bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation, good mouthfeel.
So, original Punk IPA is: identical in appearance, has more of a malt presence, earthier, much stronger bitterness with not much sweetness. It feels less balanced, the bitterness reducing the sessionability, needed more hops. Overall not bad, but I’m glad they improved the recipe. Current Punk IPA was my introduction to craft beer and I don’t think I’d have been so keen if I’d have tasted this original one instead.
