of the 4 promo brews ordered online, this was the clear winner. huge flavour and aroma. a much better beer than dogma, they should substitue them but sadly this will probably never be seen again fiulijn (20515) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 22, 2012

The color is almost back, with creamy brownish head. The aroma of dark malts is mild but subtle, interesting, with light bread and light smoke. It’s full bodied, with round and smooth mouthfeel; the flavor is a succession of waves: malt, chocolate, molasses; there is a moderate sweetness and some light smoke; some bitterness just in the final, that gets just slightly dry.
Great balanced beer, that can be sipped for long, and enjoyed with cheese.
Tasted this at the BrewDog, Glasgow in January 2012. Cask, draft flow system dispense. Dull black in colour with a thin buff head which rapidly vanished. Strong notes of liquorice and molasses, long in the nose. Creamy smooth mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a sweet complex base with a clootie dumpling base laden with strong honey notes. Very sweet treacle toffee and Bassets liquorice allsorts full in the mouth. No sign of hop resins in this. Finish like the aftertaste is sweet and very malty with oak cask mead notes warming in the throat. One of my favourites from the portfolio. stravale (3065) - Co. Westmeath, IRELAND - MAR 17, 2012

Overall - I like these rich malty Scotch Ales...it’s really good - glad I had it bottled, would not work on tap.
Bottle, shared by BBGTC. Pours a deep brown, near-black body with a small beige head. Aroma is caramelized sugars, hints of licorice, molasses and dark malts. Taste is licorice, dark malts, dark syrup, caramel and hints of burnt sugar. Nice. Smooth and velvety mouthfeel. A very good scotch from the Scots of BrewDog.

0.33l bottle from BrewDog webshop. A really dark dark brown - almost black - beer with a nice big and quite lasting creamy chocolaty head that’s lacing nicely down the glass. It’s quite malty with grassy biscuits - an almost herbal grassy flavor also with some dry chocolate and deep dark caramel. Not extreme but quite nice. Has a average carbonation level and it’s really slick and oily texture. Lovely roasted and dark coffee flavors with sweet sweet licorice and caramel. It’s actually almost a bit cloying it’s so sweet, but eventually it worked out to be a really nice sipper that lasted for quite some time. 21.01.2011 tommann (3751) - Dudley, West Midlands, ENGLAND - FEB 2, 2012

330ml Bottle - Dark brown with a foamy tan head. Marzipan, dried fruit, roasted malt and some smoky hints in the aroma. Fruity, malty and roasted taste with raisins, marzipan and almonds detected. There is also a noticeable, yet subtle, sweetness in the finish.
