Aroma is peated malts, whisky and not much more. Taste is very whiskyish with big smoke, and boozy finish.

33cl. bottle from a local beer retailer. It pours a cloudy ruby-amber liquid with a medium-high consistent beige head that leaves some quality lacing. The aroma is complex, with a general roastiness along with some smoked whisky hints, chocolate, brandy, a little alcohol (not annoying) and some ripe dark fruits. It tastes similar, more smokey and alcoholic, with some spices; very intense. It is medium-high sweet, low sour and low-medium bitter. In the mouth it feels mild but lively carbonated, dense, with an almost full body and a long dry boozy and quite bitter finish, with an aftertaste of smoked whisky, toffee and dark fruits. Presentation is top-notch, absolutely fantastic, for a very interesting barley wine. Nice job.

Bottle. Toffee colored beer with a cream colored head. Scotch and peat aroma with malt. Smoke and peat flavor with toffee and scotch. Medium-plus bodied. Smoke and peat lingers with toffee and scotch barrel characteristics.

This got a lot going on. You can actually seperate this beer and taste all the additional ingredients. It is very sweet with candy floss apparent. The smokiness hits and really almost climbs all over everything, but remains restrainded enough not to kill the experience. Certainly an eccentric beer from two eccentric brewers. Probably more a curio, but certainly not a bad BW.

(Bottle 03/10-2011) Medium fading light brown head, clear dark brown color, dry smoked slightly alcohol after taste, soft co2, well balanced and not dominated by malt sweetness. BB date bottle 19.03.16. BB date Drikkeriget 01.06.14.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2016 2011-okt: En stor besvikelse. Gott.

Bottle given as I graduated my master thesis, shared with Plovmand. It pours hazy mahogany with a tan head. Didn’t expect this at all! Smoked whisky, caramel, raisin and fruits in the nose that get even better as it gains temp. Flavour is smoked whiskey, caramel, pine and fruity hops. Different in a good way and very interesting! :)

Bottle. Thanks Anker for sharing! The beer pours almost clear amber with a creamy off white head. The aroma is truly Laphroig whisky with notes of peat, smoke and then a strange note of hops that makes it quite different from other smoke barleys I had but I really like it! The flavour is heavy peaty and truly Laphroig like with notes of sweet caramel, sweet malt and some hops. A true Islay Barley Wine. I like this ALOT!

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2011 AROMA: hay, smoke, raisin, hint of alcohol, whisky, wood, WOW APPEARANCE: dark brown, clear, frothy head that disappears. TASTE: light sweetness, lightly bitter, umami PALATE: full body, sticky, lively, long finish filled with smoke OVERALL: this is a complex beer, very well put together as very strong aromas are balanced out (the smokiness from Laphroig is quite pronounced). Very strong, but the alcohol is well hidden.
