COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When we brewed the first ever batch of Tokyo, we decided to fill three whisky casks, two Highland and one Lowland. Tokyo Rising Sun is the result. We cannot decide if it is a good or bad thing that we managed to forget about these barrels for 4 years. It is definitely a good thing we found them. Brewed in May 2008. And then forgotten about. A beautiful accident. An unsuspecting masterpiece. A beery time capsule. This imperial stout has been aged in a Scotch whisky cask for over 4 years. For more than 48 long months this beer lay hidden in oak in the depths of our north east of Scotland warehouse. Highland Edition Tasting Notes: aged in a Highland whisky cask resulting in a viscous slow motion roller coaster of powdered cacao, hints of burning pirate ships, salted caramel, sharp berries and toasted marshmallow. Best enjoyed with a dose of vagrant optimism.

ClubGonzo (5685) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 29, 2012
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a tar black body with a miniscule beige head. Nose is well-rounded and smooth tones of licorice, whisky, oak, licorice, leather, vanilla, hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is sweet licorice and jasmine notes, syrup, dark malts, vanilla, chocolate and brown sugar, hints of whisky, smoke, coffee and roasted bread. Full body, medium to soft carbonation. Complex enough, but the sweet jasmine thing really breaks the palate on this one too; dominant and pungent. Very, very sweet and quite nice, but all in all the Tokyo series is a bit too jasmine-heavy for me. I’ll never try to brew anything with it.

Cuso (8935) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - DEC 18, 2012
Bottle from brewdog.com. Almost black color with huge beige head. Peated whiskey in aroma together with notes of caramel and chocolate. Taste, sweet roaste malt, milk coffee, dates, prunes, wood, peat, whiskey. Full bodied beer. Strong bittersweet alcoholic (whiskey) finish with notes of wood. Extremely tasty beer, I am glad, that I have one more bottle.

In bottle at Craig’s. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thin, light tan head. Aroma of phenol, iodine, coconut, oak, chocolate, soy sauce and alcohol. Similar flavours with lingering coconut and chocolate again. Mild carbonation an oily mouth-feel. Nice but I prefer the Lowland cask.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours an opaque black with a small brownish head. Heavy iodine aroma atop some solid roast. Heavy, heavy sweet sugarish roast with a very low carbonation. Massive Islay notes, loads of tar and salt and iodine here. Has a slight late tart edge to it. Boozy finish. Yeah, I still don’t dig Islay - at all. 071112
