COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When we brewed the first ever batch of Tokyo, we decided to fill three whisky casks, two Highland and one Lowland. Tokyo Rising Sun is the result. We cannot decide if it is a good or bad thing that we managed to forget about these barrels for 4 years. It is definitely a good thing we found them. Brewed in May 2008. And then forgotten about. A beautiful accident. An unsuspecting masterpiece. A beery time capsule. This imperial stout has been aged in a Scotch whisky cask for over 4 years. For more than 48 long months this beer lay hidden in oak in the depths of our north east of Scotland warehouse. Highland Edition Tasting Notes: aged in a Highland whisky cask resulting in a viscous slow motion roller coaster of powdered cacao, hints of burning pirate ships, salted caramel, sharp berries and toasted marshmallow. Best enjoyed with a dose of vagrant optimism.

0.33 l bottle at Vihreä Haltiatar, Jyväskylä. Black color. Pungent smoky aroma with tar and iodine. Sweet tarry, salty and peaty taste with iodine, sea salt and scorched bread. Tastes more like a whisky with beery notes in the background. Still a nice sipper in very small quantities.

0,33 l bottle, Brewdog online store.
Black as hell, small creamy tan head. Tart, earth and a huge cloud of smoke and burnt wood, peat and agressive smoke, raisins and some molasses, cocoa in the agressive aroma. Smoke and smoke and smoke in the taste again. Peat with caramel, smoke with burnt sugar, molasses with roasted grains.

ChrisOs Marvellous Pre GBBF Mega Tasting. Deep dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Boozy nose with a little TCP. Smooth semi dry palate. Dry spicy dark malt. A little juniper type fruitiness. Tangy. Mild chocolate. Despite the TCP - really drinkable because of the rich fruits and malts.

cherries, burnt, rubber, salty. Exactly as I expected-harsh & tasty. Was a bit much for the rest of the group but I gladly took their pours from them.

Bottle at Chriso’s 2012 Pre-GBBF Shindig, London. Pours dark, brown-black, oily, with a fine, tan foam head. Peat whiskey nose. Big sweet flavor, tons of sugar, hot whiskey, heavy peat, dark sugar syrup. Full bodied with fine, chewy carbonation. Big heat to finish, strong peat, some burnt wood. Super hot, very sweet. It’s a beast, but pretty tasty.

Bottle from liquid treasure. Wow! Very intense. Smokey with dry tobacco flavours. Pitch black with a very oily texture. Couldn’t handle a whole bottle I don’t think but I’d certainly give it a try.

Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig. The pour’s deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is cherry, some vanilla, strong sugary wood and booze. The taste has a strong agressive vanilla flavor, light apricot and sickly sweet sugar. Hot. The body’s full, legs on the glass. Overall, pretty good.
