COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When we brewed the first ever batch of Tokyo, we decided to fill three whisky casks, two Highland and one Lowland. Tokyo Rising Sun is the result. We cannot decide if it is a good or bad thing that we managed to forget about these barrels for 4 years. It is definitely a good thing we found them. Brewed in May 2008. And then forgotten about. A beautiful accident. An unsuspecting masterpiece. A beery time capsule. This imperial stout has been aged in a Scotch whisky cask for over 4 years. For more than 48 long months this beer lay hidden in oak in the depths of our north east of Scotland warehouse. Highland Edition Tasting Notes: aged in a Highland whisky cask resulting in a viscous slow motion roller coaster of powdered cacao, hints of burning pirate ships, salted caramel, sharp berries and toasted marshmallow. Best enjoyed with a dose of vagrant optimism.

Purchased from Brewdog Online Store, drunk alongside a Tokyo*. Comparatively thinner with less of a full-on punch of flavour in the beginning, but offering a much more exciting lingering flavour. Peaty smoke and a real smoothness on display. Quite an exciting beer, but at 25 a pop not an experience Ill be having often.

Fair enough.

Bottle, courtesy of Toni Fluekiger, many thanks! Pours dark brown with a very little head. Aroma is tar, road works, super roasted, liquorice. Body is heavy, but through a light and acidic carbonation it doesnt feel as bold. Still dark black, extreme bitterness and medium sweetness. Late booze with a sweet palate, chocolate and coffee. Whisky shows up here and there. Nice.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - gorgeous. Liquorice, tar. Whisky barrel. Something quite earthy at the back. Taste - toffee, tar and liquorice. Sweet liquorice on the end. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry tangy texture. Overall - really deep and complex.

330ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb and Stuu666. Cheers to Stuu666 for the Whalez. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of whiskey, wood, booze, chocolate. Taste is surprisingly sweet up front, chocolate liqueurs. Some sherry, oak, vanilla, hint of meaty smoke roast. Glad to have tried.

Bottle 758 of 2237. Poured into snifter, dark black but not fully opaque, good lacing, small beige head. Aroma of peat, some iodine, smoke, christmas cake, light grape must, gingerbread. Oily and sticky, light carbonation. Flavour is sticky sweet, brown sugar, raisins, dates, light peated whisky notes, some roast. Slightly meaty, some soy sauce, but augments the sticky sweet flavour and the whisky smoke. A real treat.

Small bottle, thats been in my cupboard for a while. Pitch black colour with no head. Aroma is Christmas pudding with whiskey, taste has peat whiskey, as well as the chocolate. Nice to try but a bit too much whiskey for me.

Kicsit olyan, mintha egy whiskybe mrtott, szenesre prklt horddongval siklnnk a nyelvnket, ami vastagon megvan szrva kakaporral. Brutlis, de finom!

Bottle 1829 of 2237, enjoyed 2,5 years after bottling. Pours black, with a small rocky mocha head. Aroma is dark malts and whisky barrels, with tobacco, tar, bonfire, liquorice, tannins and notes of chocolate. Full creamy body, with no carbonation. Flavour is sweet, malty and of course really over the top, with liquorice, tobacco, dark fruits and molasses, as well as cocoa, coffee and whisky barrels. Lingering sweetly finish with molasses and dark fruits.
