The unsung heroes, the foot soldiers of the revolution. We owe a huge debt to the billions of tiny yeast cells that work tirelessly to ferment sugars into alcohol and CO2. But yeast isn’t just here for the grunt work. Yeast has the power to change the flavour, aroma and complexion of your beer in an instant. This series is designed to showcase the impact different yeasts have on the same base beer.
This series of 4 beers gives the limelight to four totally different yeast strains: Belgian Trappist, Pilsen Lager, American Ale and Bavarian Weizen. All 4 beers have been brewed to the same ABV using a blend of Centennial and Amarillo hops and a backbone of Pale Ale, Munich and Cara Malts. Malts: Maris Otter, Crystal Malt, Caramalt
Hops: Centennial, Amarillo
Twist: Each beer is identical except for the different yeast used to ferment the beers creating 4 radically different beers from the same starting point

Bottle from Pibar, Lausanne; batch 234, bb 07-10-14
Light amber color, hazy, with copper hue; medium sized compact head. The malt aroma has a nice biscuity side; honey coated roasted almonds. Smooth mouthfeel; full bodied for a Pilsner; very good malt flavor with biscuits and light toffee; correct bitterness.
Wonderful Pilsner, balanced and rich.

Bottle nice amber body with off white head. I think the unleash thde yeast series is a very interesting experience and shows how important the yeast is for the taste of a beer. I will not rate them individually because for me the taste of each is not that important. I liked most the American Ale followed by Trappist and Lager and I didn’t like the Weizen. Great interesting series.

Clear orange color, short lasting head which leaves a small but lasting lacing. Aroma is mostly hoppy, though not as hoppy as any IPA by BrewDog would be. The taste is quite good, although I expected a bit more. On palate it just feels lacking. On overall it’s quite good lager, but I would not buy it for most of the time.

Bottle. Golden with medium white head. Aroma/taste reminds me more of an IPA than lager. Fruity hops in the nose. Taste is inicially sweet n malty, then goes bitter - hops and grapefruit. Nutty, bready, bit dry aftertaste. Very nice, but not lager-ish in any way (yeah I get it, its just the yeast, not the style)

Bottle at home in London. Well, the beer looks pretty much perfect. It pours clear, burnished gold, lightly effervescent with a creamy, off-white head that lingers. The nose has lots of sweet bread, grains, a bit of toasty hay and ample cereal. Medium sweet flavor with further prominent, lightly toasted cereal grains, bread, some toasty sugars, mild bitter grass and hay. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation and a massaging mouthfeel. Somewhat sugary sweet on the finish with basic bready malt structure featuring accents of cereal, hay, grains. A robust lager. Certainly of premium grade.

From the 4 pack. At first sniff the difference between this and the American is extraordinary; all lean sappy shrub, honey, sesame, soft leather- all things I associate with a quality German/Czech lager and would attribute, in my ignorance, to hops or malt. Pours slightly Martian gold with more ornately frilled white lace than the American. Soft honeyed lager flavour with biscuits dunked in bitter black tea, sesame streaks, buttery orange peel, gently soapy bitterness, thistle sap, light booze. A very, very wee dab of the American’s mandarin hop comes out very late in the drinking process. Sweet and rounded- atypically BrewDog. A beer that tasted great and (6600 beers in) changed my opinion about beer. You can’t ask for more than that.

33 cl. bottle split with Kraddel. Procured by him. BBF 07/10/2014. Bright clear amber / orange with a disappearing white head. Smell is full of fruity USA hops, tangerine, orange, all on the fruity & mellow side with candy sugar, seems pretty odd to use such dominant hops to showcase yeast but okay it is BrewDog. Taste is pretty sweet, lots of sweet fruits, very sweet, tangerine, caramel, toffee, faint grass, oranges, sweetness covers everything. Body is pretty thick, bit yeast heavy. It is a pretty odd & contradictory brew, not sure what this was meant to be but this is a pretty odd brew for something that has pils yeast in it.
