COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

Pours a black, with a bit of reddish light getting through and a small tan head. Really looks like a stout. Nose is roasted malt, treacle, coffee and bitter chocolate, bit of citrus and some lager malt. Medium mouth feel, has a refreshing edge to it, but it tastes like a stout, with a bit more citrus and its slightly smokey. Love it, whatever it is.

Bottle from local Aldi. Pours a very dark brown. Reddish edges. Light tan head. Clings to the sides. Very lightly smoky aroma. Dried cherry and raisins. Light coffee. Little general citrus zest. Some pine at the end. Taste has a soft sweetness with a little creamy touch. Citric bite with a sharp bitterness. Light roasty notes. A little metallic. Slightly savoury middle with a bitter and slightly dry finish. Medium body. Foamy carbonation. Confusing. Complex. Not bad. Not great. Good....

Pint at Jeremiahs. Pours black (hint of copper0 with thickish but short lasting head. Aroma of coffee and charcoal. More of that on the taste with a citrus twist. A little thinner than I remembered it in bottle, but a nice burnt toast coffee citrus dark ale, with lager sensibilities if you wanted to session it.

Bottle. Dark Brown, almost Black, in colour. Chocolate and smoke aromas. Malty; roast malts, dark chocolate, caramel, coffee, mild liquorice. Fruity; dark fruits. Some bitter spicy hops. Dry roast malty with balancing hoppy bitterness. Slight sourness. Very drinkable. Nice beer! (2010-01)

NORSAND (85) - Lillestrm, NORWAY - JAN 26, 2017
(Best Before date June 2017, presumably brewed June 2016) Very dark brown, towards black, with a small but persisten beige head. Nose: Lovely, rich aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, and dark, bitter chocolate. Pure Stout on the nose. Taste: The arrival is dry, then come roasted coffee beans, cocoa beans and a rich carbonation, giving a creamy mouthfeel. Through the mid palate to the exit, this beer holds its grip and somehow doesnt quite loosen up (is it simply the underfermented influence on ingredients which are normally top fermented?). Staying dry and slightly bitter all the way into the aftertaste. I cant help but feel that this starts out so promising on the nose and in the arrival, only to not unfold its full potential in the finale (or is that just underfermented Schwarzbier for you...?)
