COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

Pours slightly transparent black with good beige head. Aroma crisp malt and a hint of roasted malt and a metallic note. Fairly highly carbonated but small bubbles with thin mouth feel. Taste is crisp lager hops with a nice light malt balance, slight touch of chocolate and some smoke. Finish is dry and bitter.

Pours dark brown from the bottle and leaves a tan head. Some lacing. The aroma is smoke, chocolate, a touch of nail polish. Taste is burnt toast, bitter, mineral undertones, with a light sourness. Kind of dull, but then again I’m not a huge fan of the Schwarzbier style. The body stays to the light side of medium. Okay.

Pours a black, with a bit of reddish light getting through and a small tan head. Really looks like a stout. Nose is roasted malt, treacle, coffee and bitter chocolate, bit of citrus and some lager malt. Medium mouth feel, has a refreshing edge to it, but it tastes like a stout, with a bit more citrus and it’s slightly smokey. Love it, whatever it is.

Bottle from local Aldi. Pours a very dark brown. Reddish edges. Light tan head. Clings to the sides. Very lightly smoky aroma. Dried cherry and raisins. Light coffee. Little general citrus zest. Some pine at the end. Taste has a soft sweetness with a little creamy touch. Citric bite with a sharp bitterness. Light roasty notes. A little metallic. Slightly savoury middle with a bitter and slightly dry finish. Medium body. Foamy carbonation. Confusing. Complex. Not bad. Not great. Good....

660ml bottle. Black with a big, frothy off white head. Coffee and smoke aroma, flavour is similar with a little dark chocolate and a crisp hoppy finish. Good

Heidbummer (649) - SCOTLAND - FEB 1, 2017
Pint at Jeremiah’s. Pours black (hint of copper0 with thickish but short lasting head. Aroma of coffee and charcoal. More of that on the taste with a citrus twist. A little thinner than I remembered it in bottle, but a nice burnt toast coffee citrus dark ale, with lager sensibilities if you wanted to session it.
