COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

Len som en svensk sommarkväll (den dracks också mycket riktigt en sådan vilket kan ha påverkat omdömmet)Kaffe och soya, lite maltsötma och en liten avvägd beska på slutet.

The name bothers me but, otherwise this is a fairly good black lager. I would have preferred more and stronger taste but lagers have limitations.

TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 28, 2011
Bottle (in NZ). Just what I love in a Schwarzbier, and more. A little hint of fruity hops on the nose. Roasty malt in the mouth, a quick touch of sweetness before drying out nicely. All the time being light, smooth and very sessionable. Damn!

Benzai (15619) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - AUG 22, 2011
Bottle at Cafe buitenlust, Oirschot. Very nice dark brown color with a deep dark red glare coming through. Smell mostly coffee, just slightly a little hint of grapefruit. Taste, malts, fruits and roastyness. Decent carbo, medium body.

Pint on-tap at Brewdog Edingburgh (£3.20):
Made up of roasted malts, some light toffee notes and very sweet fruity smell that is reminesant of dark summer fruits and there is a nice general hopiness.
A dark, solid black colour with a slight reddish tinge, settles toh a thin brownish white head that lasts for the duration of the drinks life.
Lots of sweet malts, hops and roasted barely that is quite similiar tasting to a stout but not quite as strong on the taste buds. There is a good fruity finish that closely matches the nose & contains faint hints of both toffee and coffee but not much.
Medium bodied & with good carbonation levels, this is a smooth beer to begin with but finishes slightly on the sticky side.
Not at all what I was expecting from this one. Quite sweet and fruity tasting & this is matched by the nose but overall a very drinkable beer that I hope to drink again soon.

Bottled. Pours clear, deep brown and nearly black with a small, beige head. Nose of roasted malts, coffee and hoppy notes. Relatively dry flavour with dark roast, bitter coffee and notes of chocolate.Medium bodied, texture is watery to creamy and the carbonation is average. Dry and slightly bitter finish. An interesting and enjoyable schwarz.

Benjii (3049) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - AUG 7, 2011
On keg at The Brewdog Bar. A black beer with a slight reddish tinge and a thin light tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and dark malt. Flavours of coffee, yeast and caramel. Moderate carbonation with some CO2 prickle. Little grassy finish. Not bad.

stunetii (90) - Bergen, NORWAY, NORWAY - AUG 7, 2011
Purchased at systembolaget in Uppsala on June 16, 2011. Pours with a super dark brown color, culminating in a medium-sized and resilient dark tan head. The lacing is sparse, but sticky and clings to the glass long after this tasty treat is gone. The nose is distinctly roasted malts, coffee beans and chocolate. The mouth feel is somewhat thin, but the flavor profile is very good: roasted malts, caramel, some chocolate. A very nice swarzbier – one of the better ones I’ve had. Love the bottle’s artwork.
