3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2013 Draft on Monocacy Brewery tour. Sample in small glass, dark copper color with off-white head. Aroma of caramel sweetness and spices. Taste adds some surprising citrus hop notes and some nuttiness. Medium body yet light tasting. Interesting.
Sampled on draft the brewpub this beer poured a caramel brown color with a medium sized foamy orange-tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was malty with fruity hops. The flavor was bitterish and tart yet sweet with faint caramel and fruity hops. Medium length finish. Medium boyd. Ok. solidfunk (9363) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - OCT 10, 2015
Kind of odd, and not really much of an altbier. Pours clear amber with pretty good head and lacing. Some musky wooden aroma. Light sweet finish. Tap at brewpub. JDBaker11058 (2334) - Maryland, USA - JUN 19, 2015
Appearance: medium amber, slightly opaque, short and creamy tan head quickly fading. Aroma: dark brown bread, maybe a hint of caramel, fresh newspaper, and earthy hops. Taste: rustic brown bread, roasted grain, a hint of coffee, and a pronounced lightly sweet nutty note. Finish: clean and dry, with a hint of that nutty roasty malt note lingering. Notes: A pleasantly drinkable beer. Liked the alt-style malty-without-sweetness character, which melded nicely with the nutty aspects. Would drink again, and Zoltan--a true altbier fan if ever there was one--pronounced it good. Bottle from Ye Old Spirit Shop in Frederick, Maryland.

Always looking for a new take on a favorite style, I was happy to try this on tap AND later in a bottle. This Alt wasn’t quite what I expected, but I liked it. A tiny bit lighter in color than your typical German Alt (slightly opaque amber--looked just like the Oktoberfest others at my table were having, though the head was a bit more tan) and the same malty freshness in the nose and in the taste. Some hops in the aftertaste--a somewhat pronounced bitterness that really rounded the flavor nicely. Excellent and very drinkable. Almost like being in Dusseldorf.
Then I just found this in a bottle and tried it again. I enjoyed it even more. Same quality flavor profile, a bit darker color and a bit lighter body than I remember (both good traits) but equally good. I hope they keep bottling because I’ll keep buying. Those fancy little flip top bottles of Uerige I’ve been buying are expensive. MrChopin (4304) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 27, 2013
rich gold, large bubbled thin white ring. Papery nose, salt with sea water reminiscent of oysters. Flavor equally salty, light dough mid before a grainy wash finish, hints of honey throughout. Thin body glides over palate. Decent if the sea notes are odd.

Bottle at the brewpub. Poured an orange color, weak head, weak lacing. Aroma of nuts. Flavor followed with not enough depth in malts or hops especially to do the style justice. Just call your beer an amber and quit the alt moniker nonsene. Mouthfeel weak. BeerandBlues2 (13695) - Escondido, California, USA - AUG 4, 2013
Bottle at home courtesy of sonnycheeba. Pours clear amber with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with fair lacing.
