Average carbonation, mouthfeel a bit frothy, really crisp acidic finish. Flavor is rich, caramel and funky tart well mixed, cherry, leather, vinegar. One of the better sours from vivant, and they're all good.

tmoreau (4980) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - DEC 28, 2016Shared 500 ml. bottle poured to a snifter showing a hazed, amber color, with a decent layer of tan froth, and foamy spots of lacing. The nose was dried fruit, touches of yeasty funk, spice, toast, caramel sweetness, and light tannins. Disconcerting hints of vegetable & pee were also noticed but somewhat fleeting. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation, the taste was similar, somewhat hidden alcohol, and moderately sweet & tart. A presentable enough Oud Bruin, barring the average maltiness & body, and other hiccups in the aroma.

superspak (6645) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - SEP 14, 2016500 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours clear deep ruby red/light brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart cherry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, lemon, green apple, plum, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted oak; with lighter notes of pepper, nuttiness, leather, musty funk, vanilla, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast. dark/bready malt, and oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart cherry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, lemon, green apple, plum, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted oak; with lighter notes of pepper, nuttiness, leather, musty funk, vanilla, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/acidic tartness and yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, berries, lemon, green apple, plum, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted oak, light leather/funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast. dark/bready malt, and oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from tannin/acidity, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, and moderately creamy/acidic/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.4%. Overall this is a fantastic Flanders Oud bruin style! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast. dark/bready malt, and oak barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced acidic/tannic flavors. A highly enjoyable offering.
chucklemation (1842) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - JUL 30, 2016Pours a dark, hazy amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma is fruit, oak, and lactic acid. Flavor is sour fruit and oak, with some lacto/vinegar. Has soft carbonation and a chalky mouthfeel. Great stuff.
Pailhead (6540) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - JUL 8, 2016Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate cherries (equal parts sweet and tart), cola, lemon, hints of vinegar, vanilla, and oak. It pours a dark brownish-red that has a decent amount of transparency when held to the light. It has a one finger beige head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thick ring. There is some sporadic webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with light-moderate cherry and cola. The cherry quickly turns tart in the finish and mixes with lemon, light vanilla, and oak. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, I really dig this and think it’s delicious. This tastes like it should fall in the Sour Red/Brown style.
