From notes. Enjoyed this at the MBG Winter Beer Fest. The pour is a nice black color that I wasn’t expecting. There is a small brown head that falls to a ring with no lace. The aroma is decently fruity. There is a good raspberry, but also a spicy roasted malt. The rye is surprisingly detectable. There is a brown sugar and a little char that’s detectable. The flavor is a little jammy, with a nice maltiness that really carries it out the back. Definitely not a lot of barrel anywhere here. I was hoping the vanilla and oak would be more prevalent. The mouth feel is pretty good. Decently thick, nicely carbonated, and it carries a lingeringly roasty finish. rumproasts (5478) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAY 16, 2015
tap at 2015 michigan winter beer fest. Deep brown with small head. Big rye porter with some mild raspberry flavor. Light barrel. Decent, but unexciting.

Tap: Completely pitch black with a small brown collar. Imaging a burnt piece of toast that you load up with seedy raspberry jam. Yeah, something like that. Slightly tart, fading into a stronger sweetness backed with burnt malts, char, & ash. Nice juxtaposition of tart, sweet, & bitter roast. Finishes with a jammy & sweet mocha-berry compilation. Hints of spiciness shine through... Not sure if it’s from the malt, the barrel, or the rye... But it’s there. Just a very small hint of vanillin, maybe, otherwise the barrel is very, very light. Pretty nice stuff overall. ICEatALAMO (1351) - Troy, Michigan, USA - JAN 10, 2015
Draft at brewer. the pour is dark with a nice brown head. The aroma is actually a little non existent, weird but almost like a chocolate raspberry. There is a lot going on in the taste. Faint raspberry, dark fruits, some wood from the barrel. Solid beer.

Draft - Raspberry and dark chocolate. Jet black with a nice light brown head. Raspberry and dark chocolate in nice harmony. Not to sweet or fruity with a dark roasty bitter finish. Don’t get much barrel, but that is ok.

I had this on tap at the brewery. First let me say that they served this MUCH too cold. The beer was so cold that it felt like they chilled the glass, which they, of course, hadn’t. I guess they waited for the mountains to turn blue before they served it. I was in a bit of a rush, so I couldn’t sit around forever to wait for it to warm up. I tried to warm it up with my hands to little avail. Anyway, as a result the aroma and flavor were quite muted. It seems like there was a pretty nice beer underneath all that arctic chill. From what I could tell, the raspberry added a very nice sweet tartness at the finish. bigtaster (1004) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - NOV 20, 2012
On tap in tulip, Pours black with nice thick brown head. Nose has notes of spicy rye and chocolate. Taste is mostly power with slight hints of the rye and just a tinge of sweet fruit on the finish. Also some good smoke flavors come through. Medium body. Very well balanced and good combinations of flavor. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAY 28, 2011
