Farm Hand: French Style Farmhouse Ale 5.5% abv 16 oz Becher glass There was a time in old world France when nearly every family farm had a brewery. A necessary part of farm life was to provide a ration of beer to sustain and nourish the laborers and beer was safer to drink than the water of the time. Farmhand is our interpretation of what these rustic beers must have been like. It is slightly cloudy from being made with raw un-malted grains a nd a simple single infusion mash procedure.

I REALLY enjoyed this beer. I am a bit shocked the ratings are so low. Out of the 5 beers I tried with this brewery, this was by far my favorite. It is a lighter beer but the flavors and aromas were great. I am a big fan.

Really enjoy this beer. A bit funky, definitely in keeping with the farmhouse style. Great French saison.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2017 Having heard so much good about Brewery Vivant I was very excited to try this beer, but it’s awful. It smells musty, it looks like a lager, it originally tastes like a lager than gets this weird sour bitterness. It’s awful. *Tried this a second time, buddy loves it. Actually a pretty good beer, must have been a bad keg when I had it first. It’s actually really good.

Pale gold, pretty damn clear with a medium white head. Aroma isn’t the most inviting. There’s an almost funky hop smell that dominates the light malt notes. Hint of spicy yeast hiding in there too. Mouthfeel is crisp and light. Flavor is better than the nose and there’s a nice subtle layering of elements. Nothing dominates, there’s biscuity malt, some light fruit elements, mild hops, and some yeast esters. Really well-composed, drinkable as all hell. I’d say this is a solid saison.

Nice looking beer, yellow and cloudy. Smell was slightly citrusy, tasted of funky yeast with a slight tardiness, very nice overall.

Good. Belgian yeast flavor is solid. Only downside is it has a tartness that doesn’t work super well.

Tart would be the best way to describe this. A very sharp beer. I enjoy it immensely. If you’re a fan of bright beers with less body this is a good choice.

Very dry. Clean and crisp. Nice beer but a bit too dry. Light color. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lemon, tart earthy aroma. Pours a cloudy straw color with a white head that dissipates quickly. Good mouthfeel, earthy, tangy, sweet. Seems like a bit strong for a farm hand to drink a lot of to stay hydrated and energized, but is delicious none the less.

Outstanding Saison...wonderful barnyard and fresh cut straw flavors with a spritzy yeast nose, and a tart dry finish. Oh to be a French farm hand!
