Pours hazy yellow gold with good white head. The aroma reminds me of a german Weiss beer. Flavor is balanced with a great tartness to it, the body is very smooth. The specialty grain used seems to give it some extra spice. Very good. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 21, 2013
Sampler flight on tap at the brewery (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a gentle golden orange hue, gentle bit of haziness, richer dark golden glow, touches of orange, some mellow summer sunset glow. A frothy white head atop dies to a filmy layer, laces ok. Aromas are gentle bread, flaked wheat, and some mellow yeastiness. A touch of fruit, more bread, dough, kiss of sunflower. Dry, a bit simple. Initial is a bit fuzzy, gentle soap and florals meets a bit of bread, mellow lemon and fruit. A touch of apple, bread, and flaked wheat. Mellow dough, some gentle yeastiness, some touches of earth, gentle fruit and dryness. Middle is gentle sweetness, gentle tartness, mellow citrus and dry cereal element. Body starts to fall out. Backend is gentle dryness, sunflower, more lemon rind. A bit of tartness, decent bitter hop element starts to come on. A bit grainy, muddled. Finish is a gentle sweetness, sunflower, earthy and gentle bready, wheat, and touch of fruit. A bit non-descript. Certainly drinkable, nice earthy floral feel and lemon twist element. Ok. Tap sample. Poured hazy golden orange with a large frothy off-white head that was fully lasting with good lacing. Solid yeast, tart fruit and earthy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and very soft carbonation. Moderate tart fruit flavor with a smooth tart long finish. Get you nose down into the chalice to appreciate the assertively sour nose. Brilliantly clear light gold/copper color with thin foam ring around the perimeter of the glass.
Lightly carbonated with a few micro-bead solo-rising bubbles. Fear that it will taste like is smells subsides with mellowed tart up front that fades to an easy malty finish. Medium/dry body.
Don’t let the nose scare you off, this is a nicely balanced and gentle tart beer that doesn’t overstay it’s welcome on your palette.
