tall can, pours out a lightly headed brown. strong rich aroma of raisin fruit and molasses, licorice and bright fruity yeast notes. alcohol lurks in the vapor, and tingles a bit as the fruits and sugars dance around on the tongue. intriguing but not as full-bodied as i hoped and expected - it finishes a little thin and hot. nice effort but perhaps out of the league for this new brewery... Tall Boy from manny57. Thanks Ryan. Pours opaque brown with a little tan head that fades fast leaving a solid ring of small bubbled lace. Nose is sweet, raisins, plums, other dark fruits. Its not overpowering at all, very gently layered. Flavor is a little messy and a surprise from the nose. Tart fruits upfront, some woody characteristics, much more flemish brown like with some roasty cocoa thrown in. Intriguing. milewide (2261) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 3, 2012
A totally unique taste that I really enjoyed. Bet you haven’t tasted a brew like this! Tart is my primary thought, with some Belgium yeast and chocolate also evident. Almost black color, and medium tan head. My favorite Brewery Vivant beer so far! Dogbrick (13160) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 14, 2012
Sample at Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. This beer pours a cloudy dark reddish-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet malt, black licorice and yeast. Medium to full body with a dark malty character and notes of anise, yeast and chocolate. The finish is malty with a lingering black licorice aftertaste. Above average overall. Pailhead (6541) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - FEB 3, 2012

Bottle: The aroma consists of raisins, black licorice, and faint chocolate. It pours a dark brown with orange highlights and a small beige head. The flavor starts with raisin and light black licorice. There is some faint chocolate in the background. The finish has some tart fruit and some faint roast. Light-medium bodied with mild carbonation.
Pours a deep black with medium tan head that fades relatively quick. Aroma is sweet and tart with a decent bit of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste meets the description well and has a very interesting tartness to it. Carbonation tickles the tongue. Very interesting brew. Tmoney99 (14626) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 10, 2011
Draft sample at BV. Poured a cloudy dark ruby color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted balanced, dark fruit and yeast aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectation where exceeded.

On tap at the brewpub. Deep garnet body, thin beige head. Sweet nose with sharp alcohol, licorice, raisin, and chocolate, tart and sweet, like a dark chocolate bar with crystallized sugars, anise, and grape. Firm, biting body with warming alcohol, raisins, grapeskin, and chocolate; almost leathery with a roasty finish. High acidity. Warming and prickly with sharp carbonation. amg800 (237) - Ada, Michigan, USA - FEB 11, 2011
Poured from the tap at the pub. Pours a dark brown with caramel colored head. Aroma is figs and raisins. Sweet taste and thin palate.
