COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Monks have been brewing beer in Belgium for centuries. Their beers have been some of the most sought after in the world. Solitude is made in the tradition of the famous brewing monks of the Abbeys of Belgium. This beer is deep mahogany in color, malt forward with hints of caramel, pear & raisin.

16 oz can from the brewery (Grand Rapids, MI). Last can of a 4 pack of rates. Pours a rich copper garnet pour, mellow haziness, dark body and middle with that healthy dark copper glow onn the bottom and edges. A frothy tannish head atop dies to a small ring, spotty head layer. Decent lacing even as a small ring. Aromas are gentle carmelized malt, a bit of biscuit and caramel. Some gentle touches of Belgian yeasty spice, mellow pear and fruity ester. Distinct biscuit and carmelized feel, but not overly sweet. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, touches of toastiness, carmelized malts and biscuit. A bit spicy and toasty, dry as we move into the middle. Touches of estery fruit are gentle to decent in strength, some pear, gentle banana meets a dusting of cocoa, carmelized malts and toffee. Gentle darker sweetness, faint dark fruit. Gentle toastiness, spice, waft of cinnamon, brown malt and gentle earth. Some dryness, toast, and grainy malt as we finish. A bit more clean than that middle and backend (malt driven) led on. Some decent elements overall, its not as sweet as I expected and actually quite agreeable. Pretty solid from a style I normally wouldnt go for. That said, it is a touch warm at times for a 6% ABV beer.

Thanks to my pops for bringing this back from Michigan. Pretty average beer. Pours medium brown with very little head. Scent is very grapey. Flavor is sweet without complexity. Medium body that wants for carbonation. Can - Party Station - Fremont, MI

A little bit on the thin side. Very fruity and medium bodied. Finish is a little sweet and chewy grain.

Poured out of the can is a deep reddish-amber color with a pencil thin head settling on top. Lots of candied fruit in the scent; raisin, dates, dried cranberry. An odd yeasty paper-like scent joins with some caramel apple. Pretty sweet stuff but lacking body. Nothing too complex here: sweet raisin bread, sugary notes, odd yeast, fruity plums, dates, and fig. A little spice towards the back end. Definitely American style; seems as if theres more straight malt notes than Belgian yeast character. Maybe my least favorite of the Vivant stuff Ive tried recently but its still not bad at all.

Very dark amber pour from pint can. Huge carbonation forced delay in sipping. Nice dubbel characteristics but with a bit of sour that I didnt like.

Clear dark amber with a long lasting thick head cover and curtains of lace. Taste starts with malt, but it barely gets started before it is overtaken by raisins and sour apples. These carry right through to the finish. The beer seems fresh with good carbonation, but this is more a pomme than an abbey ale. Good stuff if cider is your thing, but that would be a different review.
