COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of our most anticipated and highly talked about specialty releases, This hearty dark ale is fermented with our rustic Belgian yeast strain which gives the beer a farmhouse tartness followed by big dark chocolate notes, and hints of black cherries. Fermentation temperatures often climb past 90°F which builds the distinctive flavors. No adjuncts are added to this beer-- these robust layers of flavor are yeast driven. Listen to the lunatic.

Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - APR 12, 2017
Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was semi-dark brown almost black in color with a finger’s worth of white foamy to fizzy head that quickly dissipated. Lace is barely there. The aroma had a nice blend of black cherries to a dark chocolate malt. A light sour grape skin trickles out underneath and some signs of grassy hops lay underneath with a settling Belgian yeastiness. The flavor brings about a nice sweet to sour to tart to semi-bitter tastes flowing into each other with a light Belgian yeasty/breadiness strolling in underneath. Blends right on into the aftertaste and slides into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable to sipping contour over my tongue. Good carbonation. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, nicely done Belgian dark ale worthy of having again if I could get it.

Pours a dark brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, some funk, and fruit - mainly cherry. Flavor is cherry, some funk, chocolate, toffee, and roast. Smooth. This is very good.

16 ounce can. Very dark pour. Chocolate notes with some cherry. No real funk or tartness, which is fine, but different from what I expected. Not sure why it’s called Belgian Strong Ale.

Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours black, tan head. Aroma is sour funk, cherry, dark fruit. I like it a lot. But the flavor is Belgian esters, dark fruit. Less sour funk. More sweet. Good.

Can:   Black, moderate foamy beige head, little to no lacing.   Roasted malt and somewhat citrusy hop nose.   Warming up front, tart, roasty, a bit lemony, with a citrusy hop background.   Seems fairly tart as it is creating that salivary response that very tart or sour ales tend to do.   It kinda reminds me of a very tart or sour Black IPA.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Tart roasty finish.   I suppose its a little musty, but also shows some campfire and ash.   Interesting beer overall, its like a tart Black IPA, with a bit of mustiness.   Certainly unique.

This poured a darker brown to black with a beige head. Aroma was of chocolate, dark fruit, roast, and metal. Flavor similar, disappointing given the name.

16 oz can thanks to Willrunforbeer. Dark brown color, fast dying head. Aroma starts with a good amount of roasty hints, mild Berry type hint and light smoke.

Flavor is an odd mix of smoke, with a sour grain base. Lacto bacteria type notes. Yeah, I guess the 90 plus degree fermentation really did some off the wall stuff to this brew. Personally I really don’t enjoy this brewery yeast strain. Just my taste, hard for me to enjoy this. I got to go against the grain here... Just not good at all.
